anyone know why i need to enter control options and switch the first setting back and forth once everytime I start retroarch up again to make the stick work?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Delete cfg.
You probably changed something that you shouldnt.
lol i love how that's even an option. but it's likely he switched the control driver accidentally.
happens all the time when i use the stick to scroll through a menue

I've been using retroarch for a while but had it crash. So I downloaded the newest version and installed it again. For some reason alot was missing in the assets so I downloaded them from my laptop and copied them over. Now it's almost up and running I can't download anything. Always says "task failed" downloading index.

sadly there is for me, XCI cutter (0.6 Alpha) on Mac doesnt let me trim files in to 4gb parts... you can't select the "split in to 4gb parts" option for Split Only mode (the selection box is gray'd out) and it ends up giving you a 4.2xxxgb file plus whatever is left.
If you try via Cut/Split mode you can select 4gb parts but then get an error saying "this file has already been trimmed" which all of mine have...

if anyone knows a workaround, especially with the upcoming Dynarec then that would be great! until then i'm stuck on exfat, will likely buy a new SD for emulators/fat32

I’m on a Mac and it works fine for me. Tested with XCI and NSP using SX OS 2.3 beta.

I’m using the latest beta.

https://github.com/choss/java-xci-splitter/releases

You will need the latest java jdk for MacOS.

Anyone having issues installing the Retroarch NSP file? I keep getting an "Already installed" message on one .nca file and then a failure on the next .nca file then it quits. I have tried completely wiping out all Retroarch files.

I do see the first .nca file in my Nintendo folder...but obviously I don't want to go mucking around there deleting stuff.

The errorcode I'm getting is 00000666.

EDIT: DISREGARD...issue was with file permissions when I uploaded the file using FTP. It had execute perm set to off.

I made a pull request that was merged today that should fix most or all problems with split Joycon mode. It should be in the next nightly.

Thanks for the fix...joycon dpad movement is now orientated correctly when used separately.

I still have a question regarding coin/start buttons in split mode. As is, when I play a multi player game like gauntlet or Simpsons, I can't start any players other than Player 1 because the mapping for "Player 2 Insert Coin" is set to Minus button. But the right joycon only has a + button. So nothing happens when they are split.

I'm not sure exactly how RA is doing the mapping between split and non split joycon (appears to be done behind the scenes) but is there something else I need to be doing? Some kind of workaround to get coin/start buttons working with other joy cons?

The mapping is done by the Switch OS, not Retroarch. The OS keeps plus and minus keys as they are. There are not many buttons in single joycon mode. But, for example, you could manually map the start button to L3 (push joystick in)? I think that might work?

This was a problem in PFBA also. I am not sure how @cpasjuste ended up fixing the problem.

If you want to fiddle with things in retroarch be sure to make a backup of your retroarch.cfg...especially if you want to redo button/key mappings.

Yeah, sometimes deleting retroarch.cfg and starting over also helps. That's how I found out about Ozone: I deleted my retroarch.cfg because I messed something up really bad, and couldn't figure out what it was. I restarted, and there was the Ozone menu in all its glory!

I also turn off "save configuration on exit." Then I can manually save my config only when I am really happy with it.

For DOSBox, do I need to customise the conf file myself? When you download a DOS game from GOG, it comes with several .conf files for the same game and launching them either results in a command prompt or the core crashing entirely

I wish I remembered how exactly it worked in RetroNX. I didn’t have to modify anything. It just worked. I tried Gauntlet 2 and iirc the + button on joy con 2 remapped itself to Player 2 Coin.

I also noticed that, in split joy con mode, the L/R and ZL/ZR buttons don’t work at all. Can’t map them to anything.

Has anyone else had any luck?

I edited my own files because the pathway might not be the same as on the computer. And I think I found some commands that are not recognized by the switch dosbox core also.

I have installed retroarch on my switch and followed the guide in this thread. I use the latest version of atmosphere on 6.2.0 however when I enter retroarch I cannot load any cores nor games. It does not detect them. I cannot enter the retroarch directory either. Any fix?

Sounds a bit like the "archive bit issue". Did you use a Mac?

Thanks. Am I able to see a full working conf file so I can tweak it to work with my games?

Those don’t do anything because they are on the side if you hold it horizontally. If they did anything you would press them by accident all the time. That’s how it is designed in the OS.

Have you tried mapping L3 like I suggested?

The SL and SR buttons become L and R in split Joycon mode.

There are fewer functional buttons on a split Joycon held horizontally there’s no way around that.

As I told you I am using a .bat file, and change almost nothing except "CPU cycles" once I loaded it :P.
As an example, my favourite dos game (LBA2) bat file:

@Echo off
IMGMOUNT F "/Roms/DosBox/LBA2/cd/LBA2.cue" -t iso
MOUNT D /Roms/DosBox/LBA2/C
D:
cd D:\LBA2
LBA2.exe save=D:\LBA2

Please note that I am far from sure that all those commands are necessary. What I know is that it works

NB: under /Roms/DosBox/LBA2/C, are the installed files from my computer.

I hope it will help ^_^

They actually do work in split mode in certain games, like Diablo III. So it's not an OS thing...or at least it's not it's impossible for them to be used.

Mapping to L3 did help out. I mapped L3 on joycon 1 to Menu. I mapped L3 on joycon 2 to "Player 2 Coin". This allows me to play games like Gauntlet and Simpsons on Mame because you can start the game with a regular button (and not Start).

I still had a problem with Street Fighter 2 on SNES. In a VS battle, you need to use the Player 1 Start button to start the match, but in split mode, you "lose" that button as it's mapped to joycon 1's + button, but that button doesn't exist. So you end up stuck on the Stage Select screen. I got around this by remapping Player 1 Start to L3. But then this breaks the default Menu toggle of Start+Select since Start is now L3. So you'd have to press Minus + L3 and that's not something you want to do often. So I did a Hotkey combo of L3 + R to bring up the Menu.

So, I do have it working, for the most part...but it's a funky work around. Not being able to use the + button for Start is kind of a pain since we're all mentally programmed to use it for that function.

I wish there was some way to auto remap certain functions depending on if it's in split mode or not. For instance...if not in split mode, then + is Player 1 Start. In split mode, Player 1 Start moves to L3.
