OK so then can I just make it easy and use the exFAT formatted 256GB card to dump everything?
Yes, just be aware that if you try to use the exFAT formatted SD card on a console that does not currently support exFAT it will not work because the firmware has to be patched, whether through going online or by using homebrew. Also firmware 1.0 doesn't support exFAT but once again, do not confuse this with what goes on in Hekate because Hekate is loaded outside of the firmware.

Nice. Right now I'm most concerned with backing up the fw before I go tinkering around.

I plan on using ChoiDujourNX to update without burning the fuses. From what I understand I'll also need to block the gamecard reader and set up autoRCM if I ever want to roll back to 1.0.0. Does this all sound accurate?

Also, what fw should I update to? Is it safe to update to current or should I be looking for a specific version?

Yes. Blocking the gamecart slot from working will differ depending on which bootloader you use. For Hekate, you have to add a line under the Launch Configuration you will be using that is "kip1patch=nogc". For ReiNX, you make an empty file named "nogc" in the /ReiNX folder. For Fusee, you will have to use the nogc version of these patches.

For firmware, it depends on what your end goal is. 5.1 is currently the best firmware for strict CFW usage as every hack and homebrew under the sun works with this while 6.0/6.0.1 has about 99% compatibility (the 1% being DevMenu) and is more geared towards if you want to play online.

Thank you so much for all the help.
One more question for now. Should I remove the rcm jig once i'm in hekate?
Nevermind, i'm noobin pretty hard... Just googled it..
Yes.
Thanks again though.

I'm still trying to run my CFW for the first time with no luck. I've recorded a video (https://www.dropbox.com/s/fgyqarba1j0t5wn/VID_20181027_033636.3gp?dl=0) of my trying to load a CFW, the screen goes black after showing the switch logo but never continues. What could I be doing wrong? I followed this guide on how to do it.

Did you check your serial number? check it against the list posted HERE

You most likely have an ipatched switch if it's new. If that is the case you need to wait for dejavu

*sigh* Yet another problem following a video tutorial.

Is your SD card formatted as exFAT? Because if it is and your console doesn't support exFAT, then it will cause a black screen. The SD card will need to be formatted as FAT32. If its bigger than 32 GB, then it will need to be formatted with a third-party program such as GUIFormat. And for future reference, a much better guide can be found here: https://www.sdsetup.com/

In the video, he was able to enter the Hekate menu meaning his console wasn't patched because it was able to accept the payload.

I think I'm going to run with Atmosphere. How would I block the gamecart slot with it? When you say that line about adding kip1patch=nogc to the launch config, is that something I would add to the "hekate_ipl.ini" or am I way off?

Nope, that's exactly where you're supposed to add it. Just add it under the Launch Configuration that you will be using. Launch Configurations are denoted with brackets like so { }

The NAND is the biggest thing by a long shot at 29.1 GB. If the SD card is formatted as FAT32 and/or there isn't 29.1 GB of free space, Hekate will dump the NAND in parts meaning you can even dump the NAND on an SD card smaller than 32 GB. Also firmware is irrelevant when it comes to dumping the NAND since Hekate is loaded outside of the NAND (more specifically in RCM).
so this should work right? I'm on 5.1 so dont have exfat support yet. I have my new 128gb exfat sd card, put it in my switch so I'd get the nintendo folder (?), launch hekate and backup NAND so I'll get one big file, then save NAND to multiple locations, then format my sd card to fat32 and run cfw and choidujournx to get the exfat support? I'd like to keep my ver. 5.1 fuses but if this wont work might as well update the regular way before running any cfw.

you can dump the nand in parts for fat32 then join them afterwards then proceed with cfw then choidojournx for exfat

Hello everyone!

I own 5 original gamecards. I know it is very "first world problem" but it is very inconvinient to carry all of them around and change the cards all the time (possibly damaging the CG slot on the long term?)

So is it possible to somehow make a backup of them on my SD card and use them without the card? And also go online without getting banned? Since I own these games with my own key for them, it shoulg be okay, right?

If so, how can I do it? My FW is 6.0.1.

To back them up to your SD card and running them from SD card requires CFW. Using CFW and going online is asking for a ban though.

Hi, folks. I would like to ask a few questions.

I've got a hackable console (let's call it console A) which is on firmware 5.0.1.
I'm getting a console (which is patched), but i'm not sure of the firmware. All I know is that i'm getting console only (no joycons, no charger, nothing).

I've got games (zelda and xenoblade 2, cartridge + online DLCs) on console A.
I understand that I can transfer all those to console B.

So, how do I:
a) transfer from A to B, so that I can hack A (with any of the CFW in this forum)
b) make sure that A and B won't get banned in any way by association or anything.

I intend to hack A for whatever's that hackable (because frankly, I want to edit savegames, etc etc)
B for legit games like splatoon 2, etc, which requires multiplayer.

And frankly, i'm not that cautious enough (as a person), so I just want to separate the devices so that what's supposed to stay legit, stays legit, and the other console that may be banned, even if its banned, stays that way without endangering my nintendo account and the other console.

Doable?

If my console doesn't support FAT32? How can I load NSPs bigger than that 4gb like BOTW, or how can I do NAND backups? Is it possible to verify if a console does not support exFAT from the serial number?

What? that hurt my head to read

Okay, all switch consoles support fat32, and all switch consoles support exfat after the 2.0 update. If you have want to have your console support exfat if you are already on the latest firmware 6.0.1 then insert a exfat sd can it will do what it has to. If not you can use choidujournx to install exfat

if you want to stick with fat32 you can do network installs, or install via to nand. Nand backups split for fat32 and can be on joined afterwards on pc

Ok got an issue. So switch on latest firmware, hackable and backed up my nand with henkate. Now following the reinx install guide. After injecting I get the boosette spalsh screen. But afterwards it just seems to boot into the official firmware because I don't see any other folders for homebrew. Tried this multiple times. What am I doing wrong here :/
