hmm please correct me if im wrong but let's say I update my switch using choidujournx and disable autorcm. If I accidentally boot my switch to ofw, my fuses would be burnt and I'd lose the ability to downgrade to the fw I had before updating with choidujournx? I read that the gamecard slot can also burn a fuse (meaning what exactly?) but autorcm prevents it from doing so?

Correct, you would lose the ability to downgrade. The gamecard has it's own firmware as such. If you are on 4.1 or above they are already at the latest version. if you are under 4.1 and you upgrade using choi then play a gamecard that requires the new firmware the gamecard reader will update then when you go back it will crash.

Autorcm prevents the fuses burning on firmware
the nogc patch disables the card reader so it can't update

Ah I see. I'm on 5.1 so I dont have to worry about the nogc patch.

Can you install updates and DLCs for the games you installed as .xci or does that only work for the games installed as .nsp?

that would be great :)
Also I've linked my Nintendo Account to my Switch and I cant unlink it anymore. I own only physical games for switch so I'd like to unlink it (it makes me paranoid since I'll get cfw soon, even though I deleted my wifi settings and I'll be using airplane mode at all times to avoid internet connection). Is my only option to contact Nintendo and ask them to unlink it?

If i understand correctly it seems if your on firmware 5.x or above, there is little chance now of a future coldboot being an option? If so why is that the case since i thought the exploit was one based on hardware and not software. And what is it about 5.x that has caused this fundamental change regarding coldbooting?

the FG exploit is hardware based, a coldboot would be software based, but as the firmware gets updated, different exploits get patched out

From what i recall mentioned in this thread, your switch and account are somewhat locked in after 6.0 update. Even then you can still call Nintendo and ask them to remove. If they ask for a reason, claim that you are planning to sell the switch. This shouldnt be an issue anyway because you want to backup your untouched nand via hekate first before using custom firmware. So if you go back to your OFW, then its like nothing has happened.

Also worth mentioning that if by some unfortunate chance you are banned, it is the console that is banned and not your account.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I see. So in that case, i should start looking for another switch with 4.x or below? I dont mind being sleep mode 24/7 but nice to preserve options when time comes...

Hi !
My OFW is now on 4.1
I have the SX Pro running OS 2.2 beta.

Here my noob questions:
1) Is there any way to update the OFW now to play bought games online and use SX OS offline for backups ? Or is this a secure way to get banned ?
2) I've made a NAND backup of 4.1. Does updating OFW now drive backup useless because of breaking the fuses ? Updating OFW makes downgrading impossible ? Even with NAND backup?
3) Is there a list of what games have which OFW on their Cartridge ? Just asked different: Is there any chance to update OFW to 5.1 offline ?
4) Is OFW 4.1 capable of exFat ?

Thanks
Tom

I've done some research on the topics you asked but I'm by no means an expert of the scene. (heck I havent even hacked my own yet but I've read this thread a lot lately)

1) I'd say it's way more likely to get banned if you use online after running any cfw, though there's always a chance to get banned if you run any cfw/do stuff you aren't supposed to do with your switch. If online is important to you, you should restore your NAND before going online as it will erase traces from cfw (assuming you did NAND backup before launching cfw). Again you can still get banned but this is way safer than just connecting online after running cfw. This is what I would do if I wanted to play a bought game online.
3) Yes you can update your fw offline by using choidujournx.
4) No, the exFAT support came with the 6.0 fw.

I want to update my firmware from 5.1 to 6.1 so I can play dark souls and future games as they come out. However I own a mac and Choidejur (spelt wrong) appears to be an EXE which I cannot run. Is there any options for me to update my firmware using OSX?

Why don't you install Parallels ad Win10 ?

When you put the nsp on the micro sd card it takes space. then you have to install it which duplicates the amount of space the nsp takes. For example, there is an 8GB micro sd, you have a backup of a game that is 7GB. You put it in the micro sd. 1GB is left. You put it on the switch, the switch has no data left on its built in data. You cant install because you have 1 GB left. Is there a way to install, while deleting the NSP/NCA?
