China meme is still alive?
These people are not chinese nationals but hunted criminals - since a decade
Mr gary has been on the run for quite some time
The irony that a team with the feds on their ass would save chat logs
You forgot to say that the Team changed their opinion on that, also tivoization.
*yawn*.
There's no honor among thieves.
Remember what happened to sonic the iso?

I give you one tip: leave me and libretro alone, or deal with it

Name dropping soniciso, very subtle threat. Weird that had to do with a stolen/replicated Durango kit, and has nothing to do with the situation at hand. Ooooohhhhh, LAW ENFORCEMENT!

P.S. I love that you tipped your hand about the discussions of tivoization and licenses. Really gives off the vibe of "haha guys I'm totally a double agent this whole time and not just at the end of the debacle when it's convenient for my image!"

Nice misrepresenting.

  • "Let's hope they know better [..] don't want to do." <-- I read this as "let's hope they don't try to push me to releasing those chat logs so that they look even worse".
  • "Also there are already 4 people identified." <-- Identified as in "we've exposed 4 clear people with a substantial connection towards TX (shills or team members)". That doesn't say anything about doxxing their real identities, it just means that their online handles are to be considered to dismiss outright, yet keep an eye on them in case they start spouting stupid bullshit again.

Got any other statements you'd like to claim as doxxing?

A doxx is specifically releasing someones personal/real information online with the intent to hurt/damage them. m4xw didn't do that.

Threaten to dox, mister critical thought. Allusions to it. Not actual names posted, of course, that's against the rules! Scroll up for more examples. Defend the guy all you want, like I said, it's half-truths all around, and:
that's why you're letting everyone in here bicker and spin on your behalf without showing anything definitive yourself.

Although, the non-bold part is particularly relevant to you. Yes, I read fuck-tx.html

Sigh.

GaryOPA is the owner of maxconsole and has a infamous name in the scene. That's not doxxing, that's just being aware of who you're talking to.

I'm unfamiliar with the details of sonic the iso, if you could fill me in on that, please do, but the implication here is that a hacking team for piracy reported another hacker for doing illegal shit(?). At least I think. I'd prefer to be filled in on this so I don't make a hasty conclusion.

He is mentioning Team-Xecuter members that went to jail, alluding to law enforcement constantly, and this threat wasn't even thinly veiled:

If you want to stick more on-topic, can we discuss my post script, and the implications of m4xw being quoted as discussing tivoization with TX, more than a month after being initially approached? No red flags? Not even "fuck the community?"

Hey nice, someone reads my blog! Glad to have a reader.

I've showed repeated proof in the form of Twitter tweets from hexkyz, who has a python script to decrypt TX's files linked as his pinned tweets if you want to see for yourself.

A doxx is something very specifc. Nowhere did he threaten to release the real life info of any TX members, nor did he do that. Alluding to wide facts that don't identify someone as a person isn't doxxing.

"Leave me and libretro alone, or you'll reap the consequences". It's a thread, but not one of doxxing. It's a thread of "if you don't want your shady dealings with me come to light, I'd suggest backing off".

Statements like "fuck the community" are incredibly wide. Saying it could simply mean a distaste for lusers who are annoying to support, a general distaste for the majority of developers in the homebrew scene and so on. Saying "fuck the community" to me holds as much value as saying "the jailbreak scene sucks". It's a non statement without more context.

Where does he discuss tivoization again? It's libretro that brought up tivoization, not m4xw, nor is there any evidence of him talking about that with TX from what I saw.

Unless you can show me some chatlogs that indicate this, I'm afraid this doesn't hold up.

bribe: persuade (someone) to act in one's favor, typically illegally or dishonestly, by a gift of money or other inducement
and in this case it is illegal
https://twitter.com/libretro/status/1046918941526937600

Bribery only covers public servants.

"Bribery is defined by Black's Law Dictionary as the offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting of any item of value to influence the actions of an official or other person in charge of a public or legal duty. ... A bribe is the gift bestowed to influence the recipient's conduct."

What you're paying them to do is perfectly legal, otherwise it wouldn't be necessary for bribery to be a crime in itself.

Breaking the GPL is not a crime, it's a civil issue.

This thread is a mountain of hyperbole. We know TX don't care about GPL, the same way RA doesn't care about the non commercial licenses of the cores. They both justify it in their heads, we know that.

If TX have violated your license you can either sue them, cry here, or get on with life. Trying to entrap them for lolz and props is worse than what TX do.

Defend your boy all you want, he certainly hasn't refuted me or anyone else himself. I am not defending TX, I know the code for nx-hbloader was stolen, among everything else that has been proven. You are just upset that I am attempting to show the readers here some shades of grey, and that not everything is black and white. m4xw is no saint. To you, he's a prophet. We will never agree, so I'll wrap up my engagement with you and let people read my previous posts and take m4x's words however they see fit

Your statement indicated that after "more than a month after being approached by TX". Thanks to xaiNaix, we can realize that the contact happened in June, which implies that the statement of tivoization was made in a chatlog between TX and m4xw.

The reply you cite is out of context. It's a specific counter to GaryOPAs massive response on this entire matter. There is no proof of tivoization ever being a subject during the dealings between m4xw and TX, which would've occured before libretro's twitter publicized this (after which any dealings clearly tanked).

I'm not standing up for m4xw as some kind of 'prophet'. If it turns out he did engage in shady dealings to the point where he did physical work for TX, I'll drop him. My desire is to learn the truth, and only the truth. So far, there has been no believable evidence to the contrary.

These aren't mutually exclusive, and I have no insider information about whether he wrote code or not. But being approached in June and having chat logs from August establishes a not-insignificant period of confirmed cooperation. You're right about misspeaking about tivoization being in August. He said it here in this thread just days ago. Him even mentioning it means licenses were in the conversation and both parties were aware of the implications. Obviously, he didn't go through with his TX partnership. But the waters are muddy about how seriously he considered it or how far he went, because NEITHER SIDE IS PRESENTING EVIDENCE (besides the aforementioned proven timeline)

Half-truths. Conjecture. Alluding to dox. Threatening irl law enforcement. "Fuck the community."

This dude is not a fucking hero. That doesn't mean he is as bad as TX, but he is not a hero who stood up to Big Bad

Everything I read so far indicates @m4xw was doing work for them or at least he was going to. fuck the community is a really nice way

I agree that the full logs would be nice.

I've already refuted your dox claims and threats. He didn't threaten irl law enforcement, he just noted that some TX members are considered criminals, which I don't have proof of, so I'm not using it as an argument.

He mentioned it as a specific GPL clause that TX would end up violating. It's not any indication (to me anyway) that these licenses were in the conversation.

I have zero doubt of TX and m4xw not knowing exactly the type of violations they would commit if they went through on it, but according to m4xw he never chose to go through on it.

Nobody is a fucking hero. Anyone who considers themselves a hero unironically is deluding themselves. I'm not a hero. m4xw isn't a hero. TX sure as hell isn't one. Is TX the "Big Bad" of the Switch scene? No. They're a plague. They're a plague that needs to be eradicated. How do you eradicate a plague? By making sure that they don't find any form to survive. Making sure they have little to nothing to stand on. Make them obsolete, make them pointless until the only arguments their defenders have left is "well, I just like them" and prevent them from spreading misinformation.

When I started arguing against TX, I thought I could change people's minds on them. I've changed that opinion over time. I'm not changing minds anymore. I just try to stop people that try to slander and spread fake news, by countering their bullshit with the actual counterfacts.

Hey TX shill, you should just stay quiet. [...] Posting in public like that, Tx isn't really smart. Also there are already 4 people identified.

I did say "threaten" - didn't I? Doxing - in my context - means to POSSESS the information and dangle it over someone's head (which he clearly has and is clearly doing). You refuted nothing. If you can't infer that the tone in his posts is passive aggressive and threatening, then I don't know how to help. He very clearly alludes to INFORMING the community/law enforcement about the IRL IDENTITIES of people he was about to do business with. To me, that is threatening to dox. It's plain as day when you read the posts, if you were a TX member you would feel unsafe after his words. Period. You are so entrenched in your anti-TX-at-all-costs camp that you are willing to turn a blind eye to the shitty things that m4x did and does. I'm openly saying that TX steals code and I also believe the other things that you accused them of in your hate-letter of a blog post. I'm not a TX shill, I am here in the middle of the aisle trying to help people see the hypocrisy that I see in m4x's actions.

You are going to bat for him SO HARD that surely you two have an established trust, and you could go over the full logs yourself and report back? Thanks!

You don't say? Adds all the context in the world dude, Google "Xbox Underground" and "soniciso"

Google "Xbox Underground" and "soniciso"
Actually, read this piece from WIRED

https://www.wired.com/story/xbox-underground-videogame-hackers/

WIRED Magazine said:
In December 2012 the FBI raided Sanadodeh Nesheiwat’s home in New Jersey.
[...] 18 months in prison for Pokora and Nesheiwat.
[...] Nesheiwat, who was 28 at the time of his arrest, did not fare as well as his younger colleagues. He struggled with addiction and was rearrested last December for violating his probation by using cocaine and opiates; his probation officer said he’d “admitted to doing up to 50 bags of heroin per day” before his most recent stint in rehab.

Ive never had any form of private contact with m4xw. The first time I engaged with any direct contact was when I left a comment on his profile, thanking him for not selling out. Since then, I have only seen his posts in this thread and my own memory of those posts. Ask him or anyone close to him for proof on that if you don't believe me. My grant total of interactions with the RetroNX project and Lakka in general is that I'm a user and that I may have asked some stupid questions about save game and rom locations in their discord.

I dont read those statements as "shut up or im informing law enforcement". I read them as "y'know, these guys have had law enforcement on their asses already, just so you know who you're talking to".

Would you feel threatened as a TX member after reading that? Of course you would. It's threatening your business. Few people want to do business with criminals.

Hell, he says "since a decade", including in your quotes suggesting that the "law enforcement" part is something that has been in effect already since a decade.

Any threat I see being made is that he threatens to reveal how low TX would steep. There is no passive aggressive indication of him revealing any real life identities, aside from a few generic statements that apply to large swaths of people.

I don't have the full logs either. I have the excerpts that have been posted by m4xw (the email and the rest of xaiNaix conversation) and m4xws statements, all of which can be found in this thread. TX on the other hand has been relying on xaiNaix's paraphrased statements for their single response instead of concrete proof.

Thanks for that piece on sonic the iso. While I can understand the way it seems threatening, I think it'd be overestimating m4xws influence and knowledge of TX to do that. I think what should be taken from that is "dont bite off more than you can chew" and "be careful with who you trust" (as well as don't be a fucking criminal.), the latter of which holds bearing on this thread.

Disagree. I see the former

I meant on a personal, I-could-be-doxed-by-this-asshole level. Yes, I would feel like that.

Hell, he says "since a decade", including in your quotes suggesting that the "law enforcement" part is something that has been in effect already since a decade.
He's not-quite-saying he can help the investigation along and name names. Apparently because he got so familiar with his TX contact(s)! Wouldn't you say it's weird to exchange so much private info with each other if there was no intention to immediately engage in business - like bank wires, PayPal, etc.? I guess he was just a really really good double agent the whole time, and definitely not just at the end when he "sided" with RA! Can't have your image tarnished too much, m4x has been trying his hardest to make himself look like a saint.

The full logs would reveal sooooo much about both parties (that I'm sure they would prefer remains private, on both sides), that's why they are sitting around in this stalemate.

Any threat I see being made is that he threatens to reveal how low TX would steep. There is no passive aggressive indication of him revealing any real life identities, aside from a few generic statements that apply to large swaths of people.
We just really may never see eye to eye. This is insane. I tried.

TX on the other hand has been relying on xaiNaix's paraphrased statements for their single response instead of concrete proof.
Nobody has shown a single bit of concrete proof beyond the initial Discord contact and a single email. What happened in between the June and October Discord messages? We will never know unless m4x or TX share that info

Overestimating m4xs knowledge of TX? He can't stop talking about how much inside info he has! Direct quote: "Remember what happened to sonic the iso?" - that doesn't register to you as a threat to get people raided by law enforcement??

The stalemate has been achieved, each is afraid of the reaction from the other. I think it was a very tactical move for this thread to be left open on TX's part. The majority of users hate TX anyway, so why try and convince them? With m4x neutralized, he won't say anything else damaging (read: his non-answers on his last few posts). If m4x won't speak up with anything damaging about TX, why not let the thread unravel into a steaming pile of dog shit and conjecture? Works out for them!

"ha, jokes on them, I was only pretending to be morally bankrupt for 3+ months!" - m4xw

What a lame excuse, and you know it, that's why you're letting everyone in here bicker and spin on your behalf without showing anything definitive yourself. This whole debacle is comprised of half-truths, of course including the TX side (honestly, completely expected). Back in June you saw green and nothing else... except maybe "fuck the community" etched into your desk?

Allured by the promise of thousands and thousands of dollars (with opportunities to expand!), and being able to get away from this community in order to work with this alleged shady organization of international criminals, as you claim. After all, anyone close to TX knows that once you join the TX team, your deal with the devil is completed and you have gainful (but oh-so-illegal!) employment for life!

Nice timestamp on that log by the way. Less than 60 days ago, actively working with TX for well over a month at that point, and saying "fuck the community?"

fuck you M4X, that's for sure. little hypocrite

Gonna dox me and threaten to release my identity too? I might be a member of Team-Xecuter! Quick, ask a moderator for my IP!
You act like the SX team would have just been upfront and been like, "Join us and we will rule the galaxy together!" That's not how these teams work nor do they ever want to be upfront. These kinds of teams always attempt to get someone to accept the money, then drop their terms on them. If anyone is going to get any information out of these teams, they are going to have to be buddy-buddy with them until they finally say everything they want.
Being close friends and having worked with almost every community dev on this site, I can safely say that they hate this community. Most are only here because we aren't maxconsole and because sub-reddits can only go so far. Just because he hates this community, doesn't mean anything.
It's worth noting that he hasn't doxxed anyone nor directly threatened to do so. Reading through the comments that you posted are out of context and you snipped out several parts to them. He did make some shitty comments, but there's still more to the comments when you go back and read them.

If we agree on nothing else, you did at least post this and I expect you to hold him a little bit accountable and not coddle him like he's some poor, uninformed victim. He specifically mentioned tivoization in this very thread, in the context of "the team changing their mind on _____" - I believe that was a MAJOR slip up for him to admit that he discussed those types of licensing issues in depth with TX. Not so easy to claim it was all a joke, in my opinion!

I don't believe any of my snippets are out of context at all. You can click the arrow icon next to the quote to be taken to the exact post. He said what he said, and he did so pretty clearly. I only snipped the middle part of a quote ONCE and I denoted it with the standard "[...]"

If what he said looks bad without pages of context, maybe he shouldn't have said it?

He mentioned it as a specific GPL clause that TX would end up violating. It's not any indication (to me anyway) that these licenses were in the conversation.

Unless TX have decided that they are going to lock out homebrew that doesn't come from them then in SX OS, then it wouldn't violate the tivoization clause anyway.

That is where you have all the code but you can't run it because the device is locked down to only run signed applications.

hekate/atmosphere wouldn't have that lock out anyway, so it would be pointless.

GPLv3 is full on communism, which is why Linux and busybox kept at v2.
