I've just updated the Switch to 5.1 using ChoiDujour and I am running SX OS.
So does that mean when running SXOS my Card Slot will automatically become useless if I ever decide to downgrade because SX OS does not support this additional file?
Correct. Also, it'll only become useless on firmwares below 4.0. Firmwares 4.0 and above will have it functioning normally.

The current exploit known as Fusee Gelee relies on the hardware of the console rather than the firmware that is currently running. Meaning it will work regardless of what firmware you are running as long as the hardware isn't patched. We determine if the hardware is patched by looking at the serial number; generally higher serial numbers have a bigger chance of being a patched console.

As an example, it is possible to load CFW on an unpatched Switch running firmware 6.0 but currently impossible to load CFW on a patched Switch running firmware 4.1 So firmware is irrelevant.
oh ok ill lookit when i can. tyvm for the help

Alright, so about a week ago I bought a switch at Walmart, and according to the serial thread my switch is unpatched (my serial starts with XAW1006). It came with firmware 4.1.0 and I haven't done anything to it other than set up 90DNS to block updates. Now, in my foolish excitement I bought something online from the eshop only to realize that:
A. I can't download it because the eshop won't work on the switch without updating.
B. The game I bought has a minimum firmware requirement of 5.0.0 or higher, so even if I could use the eshop I can't play the game without updating.

Since I eventually want to put Atmosphère on my switch, I want to keep my switch able to use 4.1.0. From what I understand, ChoiDujourNX can upgrade your firmware without burning fuses, meaning I could theoretically upgrade to the latest firmware, play my eshop games and downgrade later when Atmosphère is released. I know you have to boot tethered this way but I've ordered a portable payload injector (the NS-Atmosphere) so that won't be an issue.

Now, all of that seems fine, but I still have a few questions:

1. Since ChoiDujourNX is a homwbrew app, so I'm going to have to get homebrew on my switch to use it. What's the easiest/cleanest way to do that?
2. How do I back up my unmodified 4.1.0 image before I install cfw so I can restore my switch to factory later?
3. I only want stock 6.0.1 Horizon without burning fuses, and I'll only be playing games I have legally purchased, so is it safe to go online using stock firmware installed by ChoiDujourNX or is it detectable by Nintendo and likely to get me banned?
4. Since I have to have some sort of cfw to get homebrew working to use ChoiDujourNX, how do I get rid of that after I update the firmware? Does it even work like that?
5. How do I undo AutoRCM and return the switch to its 4.1.0 state like it came from the factory?

  1. You will have to use a CFW to do so. While Atmosphere is not officially out, its been pre-compiled by other people for people who want to use it before its release. You can use Atmosphere to load ChoiDujourNX after setting it up with this guide.
  2. I recommend using the payload/bootloader Hekate to backup the NAND which you can find in the guide I linked above.
  3. Currently it is impossible to update to that firmware before going online so if you update to firmware 6.0 offline using ChoiDujourNX, Nintendo will reach the conclusion you hacked your console to update to that firmware. If your goal is to play online currently, you must update officially. If you want to update without burning fuses but still play online, you can try following this tutorial.
  4. CFW cannot be installed to the console because the exploit used to load CFW is temporary. However traces of CFW/homebrew remain on the system even after you turn off the console. The only way to remove these is by restoring a clean hack-free NAND.
  5. You uninstall AutoRCM using the same tool used to install it

Can you get banned for having Custom Firmware on your Switch while playing online on either Splatoon 2, Super Mario Party, or Fortnite?
What differences will the upcoming Switch XL have from the launch model Switch?

Also, ReinX: The ReiNAND/Reisix of the Switch.

Yes and we don't know what the differences are, let alone if it will be called the Switch XL. It may be called the New Nintendo Switch, Switch Pro, Switch 2, etc.

I know I'm making a habit of coming here but I want to learn as much as I can.

So, I just read in reddit that instead of using ChoiDujourNX to update the system, I can just get a cartridge or xci file with an update inside to well, update the console. I think the cartridge method sounds legit but, can xci files really be used in this way?

Second, I'm seriously thinking on using AutoRCM now, but I have three dounts about it.

First, what do I do if the console crashes while playing or battery runs out? Last time I got a scary black screen and panicking seems to have helped lol, I can't really remember how but I was just inserting SX OS and flailing arround, pressing Volume Up and Power several times.

Second, what happens to the battery if I put it into sleep mode all time? Won't it get screwed?

Third, how can I insert files into my SD without taking it out? I know it has FTP transfer but I'm too noob for that, plus my internet connection is incredibly slow.

Your serial number is not patched.
how do i resolve the sleep binarys missing in my hekate?
There is an lp0 file (I forgot what exactly it was named) that is under the bootloader folder when you download the latest hekate which goes directly onto your SD card.

  1. You cannot update with .XCI files; you can only update with real retail cartridges
  2. If the console ever runs out of battery with AutoRCM installed, it can still charge; it'll just charge really slowly. However you shouldn't be letting the console run out of battery in the first place as that can damage the battery, with or without AutoRCM
  3. AutoRCM has no bearing on sleep mode. Also the whole point of sleep mode is to use it when the console is not on. Constantly turning on and off the console is actually worse than using sleep mode.

As long as its not banned, you can. However if you ever went online with the console after it was hacked and the account was still linked, there is no telling what Nintendo will do with the console the profile was transferred to.

hmmm, and there's no way to unlink my account to my current switch if i dont have a second switch?

Three questions:

1. Are game updates cumulative? In other words do I need to install all of the .nsp update files, or just the latest one?

2. If I want to delete an installed game (nsp install via tinfoil), can I go through the standard game removal process through the OS, or does it need to be done through devmenu?

3. My homebrew menu boots just fine in RajNX, but not in ReiNX (the album loads like on a stock firmware, with or without holding R). I'm on 5.1.0. Any file structure issues that I need to look out for?

Thanks!

Answers for the first two as i run sxos so i can't help you there..

1. You can just install the latest .nsp update without installing older ones

2. Yes you can just deleteylike like you normally would on any other switch.

okay so i think i got this figured out :)) my original plan was to wait for the new switch to come out then jailbreak my current switch but I really want to try to jailbreak and try all the features now. However, i dont want the risk of my account getting banned. So here's what im going to do transfer all my data to my brother's switch, reformat my current switch, jailbreak it. and in the future get a new switch, transfer again my account from my brother's to the new switch.

Hehe sounds like a hassle, but you guys think this is good enough?

Thanks! I'm glad it's not too complicated.

But but the lower the better right? Ot the .01 update dkes not have much impact on system flaws and exploit
I really wish to downgrade if its possible.

There likely isn't a major difference in future exploits between 6.0.0 and 6.0.1. Just try to prevent any other accidental updates and worry about downgrading later if necessary.

Just bought a new Switch! According to the serial number it seems to be vulnerable to fusee gelee, haven't tested that yet though. I've ordered a jig to try that later. Installed FW is 4.0.1, it's never been connected online. I want to keep my system as open to hacking as possible.
I have a retail cartridge Super Mario Odyssey. It is asking me to update. Can I do that? I thought this game would require a lower FW, being quite 'old' ?
