Hello
For a long time, I don't have any idea about this
Do you think Zelda (my cat) can hear what I play on my computer
or even, any console, hell, my TV?
I've once heard (idr if it was a trustable source, it was like a decade ago) that some animals couldn'T hear the frequency of some speaker of some console/comptuer...
I'd just like to know if it's true

If you take a look at my blog, you'll see I toyed with my cat
I said a word that makes he react, but now, I played the video on my computer, while she was close to me, but she didn't react at all

I'd just like to know if it's true or not...
thanks

It's not just speakers. My cat loves watching me play games every now and then.

When my dog was still young I remember that once I was watching a video and at some point there was a howl in the background. As soon as he heard it he literally jumped from his usual resting spot and started to look around. It looked like he was just curious and not frightened but nevertheless I tried to calm him down after that.

So, yeah. Animals do indeed hear sounds from computer speakers!

Alright, thanks guys
It's just my cat who is dumb it seems lol
I've also noticed that sooner or later they also start to get used to it and simply ignore sounds they don't recognize around an area where there's a TV, computer or something like that. So that could also be it...
...Or she could simply not care :P

haha i think she just doesn't care indeed :P
Zelda is not the kind of cat who always purr and wants to be pet
She's more distant and doesn'T always like to be taken in our arms

Me cats watch telly and react to sounds coming from speakers.
All animals do really.
Hell, I still have a picture of Lady when she was <2 years old where she stood up against me old CRT telly, trying to catch a bird.
yea well, I knew they could see tv screen and monitor
I often saw app on ipad/android tablet where cat could chase insects or such

Oh yea, BTW, I once tryed that kind of app with Zelda
She didn't care either lol...

Sound waves are vibrations in the air. Lots of animals can detect these. If said speaker is outputting a detectable frequency at a suitable power level then it can be heard by animals. This would probably be classed under basic physics.

Different animals have different frequency ranges they can hear ( https://www.lsu.edu/deafness/HearingRange.html ). Most speakers are in turn built for humans which all have the same range (or same potential range), and speakers may even be more limited than that (what humans hear as speech is a smaller range still).
This means animals may hear things radically differently to what you hear it as, and why they may not react as you might expect them to. A less abstract example might be you walk by someone with earbuds and hear a tinny crackle, you may recognise it as your favourite song but you are not going to enjoy it or be able to pick out details you would hear if you were listening to it.
