Nintendo Switch firmware 6.0 leaked and confirmed, Sept 3 release likely

IMG_0825.JPG

Earlier this year, back in March, we saw the release of a brand new 5.0.0 firmware update for the Nintendo Switch. It was an overall minor update, giving users better control over their parental controls, changing the way the news app entries were filtered, and a handful of new avatars. Now, we're almost to September, and a new milestone firmware is on the horizon. A 6.0.0 update has been leaked by the CDN, and some of its contents were datamined. The update file itself currently lurks in the darker parts of the web, if one dares to hunt it out. It's not advised that you try to mess with that, however.

While the full details of the update are not currently clear, hackers have datamined the update with fairly interesting results. Like the last update, there's new avatars, this time focusing on Captain Toad. There's 2 Toad avatars, 2 Toadette, 1 Draggadon, and 1 Wingo that have been added.

This is also an update that prepares for the imminent launch of the Nintendo Online Services, with a new slogan on the eShop being written as "More Games, More Features, More Fun". Cloud save data backups have been added, too, and will happen automatically if you put your system into sleep mode. Supposedly, measures have also been put in place through telemetry in order to have a higher rate of detection on those who use exploits and CFW. There may also be a new master key.

Furthermore, a large banner of controller icons were datamined, with NES and SNES controllers. What their purpose is has not been identified yet. Theories range from it bringing new controller type support, or icons for the new NES and SNES games that will be offered with the online service. A release of potentially Monday next week, September 3 has been cited as the most likely time that the update will drop. Regardless of when the update hits, a news post covering the official release and its details will be posted, so stay tuned.

As always, if you value keeping your system primed for homebrew, you'll want to refrain from updating before a full breakdown is available. Are you wary of this update? Excited? Shocked that it's not just stability patches? What do you think of the new 6.0.0 update?

Another Sony shill, it seems. He accuses me of being a fanboy of Nintendo, yet, he defends and jacks off to Sony this, Sony that. Sodding hypocrite.
I'm defending Sony being against crossplay. As I stated I think it's bullshit. I still have yet to see an actual argument from you instead of calling me a Sony shill

You probably don't even own a Switch, so why do you shit on it ad infinitum? Sony can eat shit for all I care.

Can’t Nintendo add folders and the ability to move icons around on the home screen? (Also, I would like it if they could add USB drive support for games - they’re just so big. I have a 500GB SATA HDD but only a 32GB microSDHC card. It would certainly only work in docked mode but oh well...)

As much as I love Nintendo and all that, I can't help but to wonder what's the idea of making some simple things that convoluted like backing save files up.
Just generate a file I can copy to my PC, it's not that hard. It's something I should paid for even, I already paid for the full console, that is not enough?
Nintendo, I like and hate you at the same time.
Damn, now I noticed I forgot to add "not".
I meant to say "it's NOT something I should pay for even"

I still stand by the fact that Nintendo is more anti-consumer than Sony. Yeah Sony doesn't want cross-play, which sucks... But they don't take down fan games or rom sites do they? They don't lock backing up saves behind a paywall, do they? (Cloud saves yes, locally no) They don't have a lackluster WiFi service, do they? They don't make you pay for P2P, do they? They have a web browser unlike the switch, right? PS4 has themes unlike the switch, right? PS4 has Menu music and folders, right? PS4 has achievements, don't they?

Sony is way more consumer friendly than Nintendo EVER will be.
No, they just think they're superior for one reason or another. Their anti-consumer tactics go MUCH further than being anti-crossplay.. The amount of money they throw for console exclusivity for things like DLC and timed exclusives. They (and Microsoft) can sod off in that respect. Add in the fact that you're REQUIRED to use a secondary/alt account for Fortnite because they don't even allow cross platform progression. "Oh no, Nintendo protects their IPs and puts non-necessity features behind a pay wall that costs a couple bucks a month! So anti-consumer!" When you start attacking Sony and Microsoft for paid online and their bullshit I may take you more seriously.

I don't like their servers, but I'm loving my Switch far more than I did the PS4 I happily sold.

Atleast Sony and Microsoft give you something for paying for Online, all Nintendo gives you is cloud saves (which is free on Xbox) and 30 year old games that everyone has played a billion times.

If I had to rank the big 3 from most to least consumer friendly it would be
1. Microsoft
2. Nintendo
3. Sony

I'd rank Sony higher than Nintendo, Switch has much less features than the PS4. Sure it doesn't allow crossplay but other than that it's fucking fine

The first two allow cross play and are looking at ways to expand horizons for gamers. I don't follow.

Dude, Xbox it's the king of milking. No one can compete with them.

At some point in time, they might be. Today, they are not. With buy once play everywhere in all 1st party titles (ie Cuphead) and free cloud backups etc, they are definitely way down in the list of milking companies. On the other hand, Nintendo will happily sell you the very same NES game you bought 5 times since the DS/DSi/whatever console, will charge you for saves backup (offline or online) and they price their accessories like Apple does. Right now, this generation, Nintendo is the biggest milker of all. This might change at any time of course, but let's see.

I don't really think this thread is appropriate to talk about this kind of stuff

All 3 companies only care about your money. They don't care about you. They will only do things when it's in their best interests. Cross-Play was not in Microsoft's best interest last generation, so they didn't allow it. Currently, it's not in Sony's best interest, so they don't allow it. Whenever Microsoft take the lead again, you bet your ass they will both be taking the other side again. It's just how things work. So they are all "anti-consumer" until it benefits them.

As for PS+, XBL Gold, and Nintendo Switch online. Eh, online multiplayer should be free imo, but it is what it is. Whether or not you find one worth it over the other is really subjective. If a service doesn't interest you, speak with your wallet and don't buy it. As I have been doing on PS4, XB1, and will also probably do with the Switch in a few weeks.
