Short story: I took my n3DS XL apart to try and fix the A button to find that it was basically a sticker and I could not do much about it, then I put it back together and it will not boot.

What can I do to fix this?

All the advice I can give you is to double-check ALL your ribbon cables and make sure they're properly connected.
Make sure the SD Card is pushed in correctly as well (if you have Luma installed to CTRNAND then this doesn't really matter)

They all appear to be flush, plus putting my SD card in just makes it turn off faster. (I did not disconnect that cable)

I heard a popping noise before it turned off. You may have damaged your audio flex cable. Make no further attempts in turning on your n3DSXL as this can damage/kill the motherboard. Keep the battery removed.

this actually happened to me like 2 weeks ago...I literally took the whole thing apart i undid everything I touched and double checked every single ribbon was probably in place nice and firm and surly enough it powered on no issues at all
seriously the 3 at the the hinge are the ones you should really try to reconnect properly one of those is the problem

I am 99% sure it is the ZIF sockets, not the ribbon cables/sensors.
I had a similar problem when I disassembled mine with the non lifting zif near the bottom and not realizing it was simply a pull only. My solution was to take some felt stoppers with adhesive and stack them on top one another and top them with a piece of thin one sided adhesive rubber on the casing so that it would push down enough pressure on the zif when I closed the system when I couldn't get the paper wedge method to work. That way if I ever need to open it again I can do so.

Sorry was a bit busy, but here's what I did. I used some door rubber strip weather sealing and just basically cut it into small squares and removed the loop to make it a flat piece of rubber. Then stacked up on the felt stopper testing the right length until it would reach and put pressure onto the the part. Not the best looking fix, but it works for me.
