Meaning the emmc raw full backup shoukd enough?
You would dump the keys so you could use it for such tools that require them (e.g. hacdiskmount). You would not restore keys like you would with the raw eMMC GPP or boot0/boot1 since the keys do not change.

Hey 'tempers,

I recently bought a (hopefully unpatched) 4.0.1 Switch.
I still need to get myself a proper USB-C / USB-A cable and JIG solution.

Now, i wanted to play some Mario Odyssey in advance but when i inserted the game card it prompted me to install a system update if i want to be able to play the game.

I prefer to stay on an as low as possible FW version, but at the same time i'm wondering what FW could be on the game card (i'm thinking it has 4.1.0 but what if the gamecard is from a newer batch, it would most likely have a higher FW on it).

Its possible you have a higher cart revision than the original Super Mario Odyssey. More details can be found here -> https://gbatemp.net/threads/list-games-required-firmware-version.485959/

That's probably the case, though in the mentioned thread/OP i only notice the "day one" patch.

Heck, i don't even know on which System Version i should be, and if i should update/downgrade or not. Every action/choice has its pros and cons (i do want to experiment with CFW later on).

If you wish, you can update to 5.1 which is the firmware most devs test their work so everything works on that firmware at the very least. You can even do so by not burning fuses meaning you can downgrade to 4.1 at any point. The catch is that you will be using AutoRCM to prevent your buses from being burnt when you turn the console on as the normal bootloader of the Switch (think Nintendo Logo) is the one that burns fuses. Thanks for the infos Draxzelex (already knew of it :P). The main reason why i post here is what the chances are that my Mario Odyssey gamecard has 5.x.x on it. But i think the best place to discuss this matter is https://gbatemp.net/threads/list-games-required-firmware-version.485959/

(actually, i almost wanted to pry open my game card.. but i dunno if it would reveal any useful information, it will probably damage the cartridge beyond repair).

If Nintendo made a new cartridge revision, then it may be possible. After all, firmware 6.0 is on its way so certain things will be changing both on the home front and in the Switch hacking scene.

Certainly. Well, i know enough for now, other work has to be done first (finding me a good 56(k¿) ohm resistor USB cable and JIG).

I never imagined there would be so many bad and out-of-spec cables/hardware.
But Nintendo (and many manufacturers in general) play(s) the same proprietary game, and there's not(hing) much you can do about it.

I am going to pass on this one as I do not know all the details about the 56ohm resistor issue and I don’t see it mentioned in the US version of that page either. Hopefully someone else that knows a bit more about the issue can chime in.

Edit: So here is a link that explains the 56ohm resistor a bit. The trick is finding an OTG cable with the 56ohm resistor since you are going usb C to USB A.
https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/how-to-find-safe-usb-type-c-cables

I have been doing some digging and I think what you say isn't true. I don't think there are OTG cables that have 56k resistor

There are two types of Type-C to Type-A cables, one is Type-C to Type-A plug, and another is Type-C to Type-A receptacle. The cables play two different roles, and must be built differently.

  1. The Type-C to Type-A plug cable is used to connect a legacy USB-A host to modern Type-C device, because the Type-A plug goes only to USB hosts receptacles, and nowhere else. In this case the Type-C end of cable must look like it is USB host, and therefore must have a pull-up to +5V VBUS on CC1 pin. Since the the cable goes to regular USB host with generic capability of 500 mA, the Type-C end of cable must have a 56k pull-up resistor, not 22k, not 10k, to prevent port overcurrent and potential damage to the host.

  2. The Type-C to Type-A receptacle cable is used to connect USB Type-C host to any legacy device like a flash drive with Type-A plug. Other legacy devices would require either extra legacy cable, or a different Type-C legacy cable. To make a Type-C host to act as host, the C-end must look as a device, and therefore must have a 5.1k pull-down on CC pin. Essentially this cable is like a legacy "OTG adapter", it converts Type-C host port into Type-A host port.

According to this post this Anker OTG cable has a 5.1k resistor which means it should work fine with the Switch.

I'm using CDNSP GUI, Works great but I've noticed there aren't any games released after July on there. Is there a way to have it update to a newer list of available games?

Hi guys. With FW 6.0 on the horizon ( :P ) and a possible release on Monday September 3rd, should I completely remove my wifi network connection on my Switch? My Switch is currently in Airplane Mode. I don't get my Jig till Tuesday September 4th, was gonna start joining the hacking party that day...

Another question, when I do get my Jig and go to backup clean/virgin NAND, is there a way I can charge the system while it is doing the NAND backup?

Help appreciated :)

I hope 6.0 release after dark soul 1 remaster,
So that we can play it.. :)

You could but I wouldn't recommend restoring save data for a game you don't own.
Your keys don't get tainted or change unless you run some sort of malicious software that can wipe these from your console.
How would I go about doing that, if you don't mind me asking? I've only ever homebrewed to tamper with games I own. I'm trying to transfer my XX save and be able to play online with it, but I'm quite confused as to how I'll take this save and put it into my backup

Deleting the WiFi connection or at least changing the password is another layer of protection beyond airplane mode, so go right ahead.

Once you have injected the payload and have Hakate up feel free to unplug the cable and charge Switch.

Two quick questions:

1.I'm having troubles installing exfat offline. Is that important or a deal breaker? Already have sxos working with files larger that 4gbs and cutting them with xci cutter. Is it worth to update to 5.1 from 4.1 just for the exfat update if you are just bad at doing the offline exfat update?

2. Might be obvious or dumb asking this, but why people install autoRCM docked if you have inbuilt sleep mode? If I'm correct, while being in cfw you can still use sleep mode.

Also, anyway to know when you are in CFW/OFW? Clicking the album with R pressed right?
