Hi guys, I ordered a Jig today from Amazon and hope to start hacking my Switch early next week. Anyway, before I proceed, I read somewhere on here that I need to have exfat support or something on my Switch? What do I need to know? My Switch was purchased on US launch day, but is on System FW 5.0.1 I think... Any help appreciated :)

The Switch OFW needs to install an update to add exFat support for your microSD, otherwise it won't be able to read/write to a card in this format. It is installed by just inserting a microSD in this format if you are on latest firmware or you can use ChoiDuJourNX via homebrew to manually install it in lower firmwares.

Made nand backup on switch, had multiple crashes when trying to dump the keys but did succeed in the end. Dumped 3 games and have been on flight mode, not installed any nsps.

Any chance of a ban going online?
If you go online before restoring the NAND backup you made, then your chances increase by a lot.
Thanks so much for help! I have been reading some of the threads on here and it seems that AutoRCM may be the best method for me, as I won't have to use Jig each time. Anyway, is there a guide for install/use of AutoRCM? Help appreciated :)
You would use a payload that installs AutoRCM such as Hekate, briccmii, or SX OS. I prefer the first two as they will tell if you have AutoRCM installed or not.

It is in Hekate so you can enable it there.

Thinking of buying a banned console, it doesnt connect to the eshop, does that mean you cant install game updates?

If its normally banned, yes. But CDN banned consoles cannot download anything from Nintendo's servers. However, all consoles banned or not can install game updates and everything else offline.

Hi guys quick question, trying to install Sonic Mania and Stardew to SD Card via Tinfoil and they just end up installing a 0MB game that errors when running, works fine on NAND but i dont want them there as i need the space for saves. how do i also delete the tickets? i think thats what it is, when i try reinstalling it, it says the NCA? or soemthing is already found on the system

I read that link, but it said AutoRCM is dangerous?
So is backing up your Nand, infecting a payload, installing an nsp, injecting a save file. It is all dangerous. But it is certainly not required especially since you are not trying to upgrade firmware without burning fuses. I can’t speak about the details well enough to alleviate your concerns but maybe someone else can.

Darn if only there was a thread that detailed all of the dangers about AutoRCM...

Oh wait, I think I found one: https://gbatemp.net/threads/psa-man...es-not-turn-off-a-switch-with-autorcm.515402/

To summarize, AutoRCM bricks your console. However, the bootrom is designed to boot into RCM when the console is bricked meaning we can take advantage of AutoRCM to automatically boot into RCM (see what I did there?) so we don't need a jig or otherwise. Another dangerous part about AutoRCM is that it makes charging the console not so simple. If the Switch is turned off, charging it turns it on but with AutoRCM installed, it boots into RCM and here's the kicker: AutoRCM reduces the charge rate of the Switch in RCM. Therefore you should never charge the console when it is off with AutoRCM. Lastly, most people do not know how to turn off a console with AutoRCM properly. If you press Power Off from the Switch, it will reboot into RCM in about 15-20 seconds if AutoRCM is installed. And RCM drains the battery about 5% per hour. AND based on what I just stated you cannot charge the console in RCM with AutoRCM installed.

So how does everyone else deal with AutoRCM? Either using sleep mode (its very efficient) or ensure you turn off the console properly. To turn it off with AutoRCM installed, you must enter RCM first. From there, you have multiple options such as Hekate's Power Off option to a manual shutdown which is holding power for 12 seconds. But the important part here is that with AutoRCM installed, you can only properly turn off the console in RCM not Horizon.

Ok, thanks so much. So basically, it is better to use the Jig each time I want to use RCM to boot Hekate>Homebrew Launcher? When I don't use my switch, it is usually docked. I do turn it completely off before going into portable mode. When I get my Jig, I was going to follow this guide: https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-hacking-101-how-to-launch-the-homebrew-menu-on-all-fw.504012/

But, won't that install AutoRCM in the process? Sorry, am confused...

Yes ;)

That guide does not instruct you to install AutoRCM if you follow it all the way through. You have to do it yourself (which is pretty simple to do).

dont suppose restoring nand removes auto rcm? mine installed it through updating without burning fuses. kinda a pain i cant just turn it on and require a usb to start it but sleep mode is fine.
AutoRCM modifies boot0 so if you installed AutoRCM after backing it up, you'll remove AutoRCM if you restore boot0.

yeah i backed up straight after getting into the menu from tegra. so i think im safe? :)!
You should be very safe. I would also restore boot0/boot1 along with the rawnand.bin since the boot0 is somewhat firmware specific so it might not work if you just restore your original NAND.

Hi all!
Is there a simple write up for setting up my Switch with ReiNX or RajNX, for a total dumbass? I'm not very clear on Fusee, and Hakate, nsp, patches, etc. I need to short out some pins on... something?

Thanks in advance,
Gassy
