Hacking Installing using Wii U USB Installer

So using Wii U USB Installer has been great. Its worked fantastically. I am using a Wii U on 5.5.2 with CBHC!

Im really just wondering about a few things though...

If I already own a game, such as Mario Kart 8, which is pre-installed to my system, or Super Smash Bros. 4, which is on a physical disc, but I don't own the DLC for either game, and I want to download DLC from Wii U USB Helper, should I strictly only download the DLC since I already own the games, or should I also download the "Update" file for the game on Wii U USB Helper (which is on the Add_update button under the game selected).

Pretty much if I sum up this question, if I already own a game for my Wii U, do/should I download the "Update" for the game itself from Wii U USB Helper (using the Add_update button) if I'm trying to install some DLC for that game?

I was also told to install DLC for ANY Wii U game, I need to be using redNAND. Is this true? I heard it from a guide that was made in 2016, so maybe that's an outdated statement, but I was strictly told I would brick.

Remember, this question is specifically referring to games that I already own and DLC that I'm trying to install for that already owned game.

you don't need to reinstall the game itself (being on disc on internal has no differences)
you can (and should) install the game updates. they are installed in a special folder, because even disc needs that updates.

updates are usually required for DLC to work, it's the update which allow the game to look for new DLC packs.
so, install updates, and dlc.

it's both outdated, and false. you don't need rednand for DLC. Maybe that was written by someone who was afraid of consequences ? ban issue ? nintendo doesn't ban, unless you cheat online.
Avoid redNAND in general. it doesn't add anything to end users, it's mostly for developers and modders, but I think even them don't use it.

Ok so this is good info thank you. What I don't understand is that, if I already own the disc, why does the game not have its own updates? Why do I have to install these separate updates for a game that I already own? Is there not really a defined reason and I just gotta do it?

because updates were released AFTER the disc release ?
you buy a disc. One year later, the developer release an update (to fix bugs, or simply to allow DLC by making the game "know" that there are DLC to load), of course they are not part of your disc and you need to install them separately.
and disc is read only, you can't write updates to the disc, so the updates are stored on the console, and you need to download them from nintendo (by launching the game, the console update the game automatically if you didn't block the update server), or by installing updates manually using WUP installer if you got them using your own methods.

It's "USB Helper" (not USB installer)
unless you talk about the FTP bundled homebrew, which allows writing to SD directly after using USB helper.

Of course, but if the asks me for an update and I update it automatically when I Iaunch it (since I don't have a block to the update server), does that defeat the purpose to re_download the updates from Wii U USB Helper?

OK cool, and one last thing,
What would happen if I install a game and the DLC, but not the update. Could this lead to a bricked console, or would the game simply just crash/not load?

Installing any sort of game related content has never lead to bricks. There was some fear mongering a while back, especially when it came to out of region games, but no one had actually TRIED it, everyone was too scared about bricking their Wii U.
The only way you can brick with WUPInstaller is if you mess with system titles (like installing some titles from a different firmware version or using the wrong options in Sys Config Tool, which is a SDK tool that was never meant to be ran on retail units anyway)
The Wii U is not as dumb as the Wii where just having an invalid or badly made banner would brick the Wii, so it's a lot harder to brick. Plus, you can install to a USB so even if you could brick by installing a bad title, it would just take removing the USB to get it working again.

to answer your question, if you install DLC and not the updates, at worse the game will just not know that developers released some DLC, and wouldn't know it has to load it even if you installed DLC into the console.
so, at best it doesn't see your DLC. at worse, you get an error and be sure to install all latest updates and try again.
