Hi everyone!
I just realised that I have to go online just to activate my Blu-ray drive so I can watch movies.
I guess that will trigger a systemupdate which I definetly don’t want to happen.
Is there any way to activate my Blu-ray drive offline?

Thanks!

Try run hen 1.7, go to system>debug

Find and toggle settings for MPEG2 and VC1.

Something I just realized I never did on my own PS4 either.

My child decided to shove coins in the drive today so I needed to see if it works. I'll be trying this tomorrow.

Could you guys please report back on if you made it or no?

My PS4 has been running the exploit since basically day 1, and truth be told, I've never had a chance to watch a Blu-Ray movie before (rips notwithstanding), so I've been on the fence about buying one because of this exact reason. So if you'd kindly let us know if it's possible to circumvent this ridiculous online requirement, I'd be thankful :)

@KiiWii - I don't have one at hand and, as I said, I'm not sure if I should waste money on one until I'm sure... ok, there are certain films worth supporting and I wouldn't really care about the expenditure there, but atm - I have no movies to test. Would enabling these options enable untouched rips to be played back as well? That is something I could test during the weekend, I think :D

Tested it to watch a BD-movie last week - first it didn't work asking for internet connection like stated above.
Changed the permission setting in the debug menu and voila...worked like a charm so you can rest assure it will play BD-discs ;)

Well, since I now know discs work, there's no need to mess around with rips :D.

Thanks for the confirmation Sunz ^^.

And yeah, KiiWii, I was utterly disappointed when the media player finally released as a payload... it still boggles the mind how in this day and age, multimedia capabilities of Playstations are so undeveloped. (and I say playstations, because I have no experience with other consoles this gen)
