Actually, it's a completely new user with first post. He/She 99.99% did not actually do this. This is just common sense and stuff already gained from the community.
Correct, I did not do this, but I was tempted. I'm just a lurker that decided to post out of an abundance of caution. I was just curious if someone had attempted installing an update to an installed nsp and was banned just from doing that. I have never played an nsp title while on wifi, but I also have a DNS update block for when I'm using FTP.

You should be fine as long as you dont update games online or go online while in CFW

I'm not banned and I been following my own procedure

Secondly:
What was the error code you received here? It seems like your ability to play certain NSPs was banned here. If so, I have an interesting experiment I would like you to conduct to circumvent the ban.

I'll make sure to post there. Also, the error code I got from it was "Communication error has occurred" from Splatoon 2 as well as a similar "Login Failed. Unable to connect to Fortnite servers. Please try again later." from Fortnite. I was able to access the Eshop, but was unable to play those two games online. I considered it a ban and went on.

I could simply say I did this on 69 Nintendo Switches and then start listing a bunch of common sense stuff and say 68 of them got banned. However, the one that didn't get any errors and didn't play online didn't get banned.
Take this as a grain of salt...
Agree with you 100 percent this guy never had 4 units three of his total 4 posts were in this thread alone... I want visual proof of all four units before I believe this

I'm afraid I have to agree. I'm not sure why someone would spend their own money on broken switch units only to purposefully try to get them banned. Even for a partially functional unit on eBay you would still be looking at $100 each.

Technically I haven't been banned but that's because my real account is not on my switch anymore, so my switch isn't really on there network because it's not linked to an NNID nor an account, if anyone says I will banned anyway, no, not really, I've learned something from my switch, if I want to send error reports and such, I've gotta either create an account or link an account.

have a lot of nsps on ReiNX, but i dont play (and not planning to) online, only single player and with airplane mode turned on. Not banned (yet). Also i update games manually only. Used wifi while in CFW plenty on times, but never used my own cert to update or download pirate stuff.

The OP isn’t posting anymore to this so I would assume to say that this is indeed a fake post. The information gained from this is the same info gained in other sections of the forums basically compiled in a somewhat semi location not really providing any additional insight on the actual problem at hand...

He just updated first post

so far, this is what i've been doing:

installed NSP and updates manually from cfw using tinfoil, always offline.

All the games installed in my SD

CFW always in airplane mode

If i wanna play online with my legit games, I remove the SD card and launch ofw, that way I can't start any installed nsp by mistake

so far so good, playing Fighterz beta right now

"haha jokes on you guys! i only lied about getting banned! I'm still playing online with ReiNX MUAHAHAHA"
That seems to be OPs motive right LOLOLOL some of you guys are ridiculous

Anyone get banned for going back into stock and playing online with installed NSPs?

I'm on a different boat, and while probably people will call b/s, I really have no reason to make this shit up.

I have a single Switch. I don't really care about getting banned, as long it's not a superban.

I have SX OS, ReiNX and CTCaer Hekate on my Switch and I regularly boot into all of them. I haven't gone into OFW for a while now, but back when SX OS came out, I'd use that to update my .XCIs. I kept growing more careless over time and right now I'm all in.

I keep my Switch online at all times to use FTPd, I have Devmenu and Flog installed, and every single game I have right now is .NSP (over 80 have been installed - I archive them and redownload from CDN using the Switch itself, and yes I'm aware this is rather reckless)

I don't play online at all because I don't have any legit certs, however I DO go to eShop basically every day to test if I'm banned... and I'm still not. I see those reports of insta-bans upon installing .NSPs and I can't figure out why I'm not banned yet.

The only safety measure I've been using is blocking that lp1-receive telemetry server on my router, but I honestly don't believe that should be enough to keep me safe for so long with all I've been doing.

I'm starting to think the trigger for the ban is trying to play online, or maybe blocking the telemetry server really IS enough to prevent a ban after all. I just can't think of anything else.

there are two lp1-receive servers if you check switchbrew, could be indeed enough to prevent a ban on 5.1.0... If telemetry is all they check

Yeah, apparently one is for errors and the other is for general telemetry. I only have the general one blocked, in fact it's something I should fix right now.

From my own experience:

  • Switch is always in Hekate CFW mode and recently in LFS mode with Creport to prevent crash reports (caused by LFS) being sent to Ninty.
  • Never installed NSPs or used Devmenu.
  • Never pirated games.
  • Don't use Airplane mode, and I just leave it online for convenience.
  • Have "send additional information" unchecked for minimal Telemetry + use SDFiles V7 with the Telemetry block to catch the rest.
Occasionally play Splatoon 2 online (only non-F2P online game I've got) and no sign of a ban (yet!).

You don't necessarily need to put your Switch into self-Exile (i.e Airplane mode all the time) if you're careful with what you do and don't do anything obvious (like installing NSPs which carry something like a 98% ban rate). Sure it's safer, but unless you're going to install NSPs and other "no-no" stuff, it shouldn't be completely necessary.

Well he did launch Fortnite in cfw without airplane mode within his 1st attempt. The damage was done the moment he connected their server with cfw.
I've been playing Fortnite in hekate for a while (not ReiNX, I know, but still CFW) without a ban so I don't think it has anything to do with that

The problem with his records is that within his 1st attempt he has done multiple things that can prompt a ban. It doesn't really narrow down anything specifically thats causes it. There are many ppl who got banned playing games online or simply downloading updates to backups in cfw. If it wasn't fortnite then the nsp he played without airplane mode enabled could be the red flag... but who knows right? using cfw in online services is just not a good it idea even if you aren't hit yet.

So basically the results of this test is "never go online with pirated games and probably not in CFW at all"
