I am curious of what Nintendo's view is about the Nintendo Switch being compromised. I was unable to locate any official spoken word or written statement by Nintendo regarding anything specifically related to the Nintendo Switch being compromised or the rampant piracy that followed afterward. I have a feeling they will never publicly speak about it as it would draw further attention.

"Lol let's release a statement letting our users know they can pirate every single game to date if they bought a machine from launch until the beginning of this year..." - NoNintendoEver

:rofl2: Yeah I doubt they will ever comment on it. I am just so curious as to what their minds must be like regarding this. Then again, they can still word it without divulging the specifics, and use it as a warning to help discourage it as it can and will cause a permanent ban from their services.

I want to see a release from manufacturers that use tegra bootrom devices.

We're sorry that someone just walked up to your car and stole it with a backdoor recovery bug, don't worry we don't have a ota fix for it so you'll need to bring it in for a new on-board computer

Upon further thought, I believe it's fair to say that there is a significantly lesser number of people that know about the exploit than the number of people that do, so its not worth it for Nintendo to say anything at all. That really is the best strategy.

They likely pay people in their company to keep ontop of the scene to see what is happening, but their way of dealing with it are slim to none. Best to keep their mouths shut about it and just throw out the ban hammer

You do realise the tegra is only used for the entertainment system right? The only thing you could hijack is their radio channels.

My friend's dad works at Ninty and said they are super pissed :hateit:

I'm sure they were having a meeting and someone said well we still have the dsi. **Johnson runs in with a GBAtemp print out ** Sir they got to the dsi too!

Lol rampant piracy thats too funny. You do realise that experts say that for any hackable console only 1 to 3% of owners actually hack their consoles. 3% is hardly rampant piracy.

They probably feel like idiots missing something so bad. Now the small minority isn't going to buy any games for years, heck I went to 5 games to owning 80 in the space of a few days. The only clear divide here is that 90% of these games I would've never bought, to begin with, but now future titles e.g Pokemon & Smash Bros they're going to be banging their heads over.

I don't actually understand how something so easy to do was missed during what I can only assume would've been months of probing the OS & device to see if any backdoors were left open. Nintendo likely don't care since the small minority will make use of it but obviously they will correct the problem to avoid it becoming more widespread.

Considering I have 400GB MicroSD full of what probably amounts to between $500-$1000 of games, they screwed up lol.

From my point of view though (slightly off topic) I don't care about doing the right thing and how it's morally wrong to pirate games. The company doesn't give a crap about us as the consumer we're just walking paychecks. Plus I was entirely put off when they made the online service a paid service.

So all in all, they're probably feeling dumb but it's so little lost for the company as a whole it's probably not a big deal other than banning those who make it obvious they're breaking the ToS. Did somebody(s) get fired over it? Who knows, it's someone's job to make sure they're aware of things like this before releasing it into the wild, right? I doubt they knew about it or they would've had that iPatch day one. They're just going to pretend it never happened as any company would, Nintendo news sources already advertised it though, literally. Poor Nintendo. :rofl2:

Sure, I do realize that the numbers are low on a grand scale, but I am talking about the rampant piracy within that "1 - 3%" is likely to be high.

Yep but the vast majority of games people are going to pirate are games that the people would never buy in the first place so nintendo or 3rd party devs are not losing out on anything anyway.

How many of that 1-3% either bought a second switch or bought a switch in general who would not have gotten one unless they were hacked?
