Is this a good sd for the Switch? Also, is there a reason to update without burning fuses if I want to use reinx? Thx
Sandisk ULTRA UHS-I Class 10 200GB
The SD card itself is fine but the bigger ones seem to be more commonly reported as fake. As long as the price difference isn't too big from the standard options, you're good.

Has anyone tested a 2Gb MicrtoSD in Hekate and has it worked? What format should it be? I get an error when finding files, but the console detects it and I can save screenshots and videos from the gallery...
FAT32 would seem to be the only format it could support since its too small for exFAT.

Is there a way to know if it is fake?

Whoops, should have dropped h2testw in my initial response. Drawbacks are that it may take a few hours to verify if its fake or not and that it can only be done after buying the SD card. Make sure you have a way of returning the SD card if it turns out to be fake.

Thanks. I'll contact the seller too.

I have SXOS Pro and my Switch is on 5.1.0, I have some XCI-games on my SDcard now but when I try to start some games they need to be updated before start playing.
How can I update XCI-games the safest way today? I know nothing is 100% safe but... I was planing never go online with my switch to the baning risk, but now I have to so I can test some of the games...
Any help would be great....

  1. A safer alternative would be to remove the update notification entirely.
    1. First make sure you cancel the upgrade!
    2. Then press the power button and hold for about 5 seconds
    3. Choose power off
    4. Hold down VOL+ and VOL- and pres simultaneously the power button
    5. Choose update but do not update... instead cancel the process!
    6. Shut down the console and restart normally
  2. But if you must update, follow this tutorial on the least likely method of being banned while updating. Note that some users have been banned despite only connecting online by following this tutorial.

is there some compendium somewhere that explains stuff like LayerFS, that FS-Kip1 patch stuff and other stuff like that?

Hi everyone going to take the step and install homebrew on my switch.

I have been doing some reading and am a bit confused. I want to update to 5.1 without burning fuses and stopping the game cartridge slot from working again in lower firmwares. Is there a guide simple guide to do both at once?

Thanks

I've been reading about switch homebrew for a while and just got my switch today, I already have a "plan" to prevent my console from being banned and would like to share it here in order to get help checking for flaws.

1- Turn on the switch, test everything without going online and set it on airplane mode.
2- Update to 4.1.0 trough Mario Odyssey Cartridge. (It came on 4.0.1)
3- Load Hekate payload and do all NAND backups available.
4- Use a CDN downloader (on PC) with a banned switch cert to download Pokemon Quest NSP.
5- Run SX OS.
5- Install Pokemon Quest with a NSP installer.
6- Install DevMenu with Pokemon Quest as donor.
7- Profit ?

Following this, if I restore that first NAND backups and format the SD card, is there any traces left of my adventure that nintendo can get to know of??

English isn't my main language, so please pardon me for any writing mistakes.

This is the part where I would link this lovely FAQ but it hasn't been updated in almost 2 months. To keep it short, LayeredFS is a type of file swapping hack meant for modding and FS-Kips are used to load custom patches into the Switch's kernel (think of how we needed kernel exploits to play backups on previous consoles).

It is simple as long as you follow the guide very carefully: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...nofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461/

If you do get banned (not saying you will), please post about it here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendo-switch-banning-hub.508710/
To answer your question, we don't know but its the safest strategy we can currently come up with. Also, while you will probably not wear out your eMMC with multiple restorations, there is still a risk in damaging it regardless.

I can't understand the expression "wear out your eMMC", what is "wear out" in this context? and what is the difference between eMMC and NAND?

Edit: I forgot to thank you for replying, so, thanks!!

Hello to the members of this amazing community. I've been lurking these forums for sometime now and i decided to start posting too.

My question is this: Is there any way to create a nand backup from scratch using your console keys? The reason im asking is because when i first started tinkering with my console i never did a full raw bin backup but instead i only did system and boot.

Im completely offline from that moment, but i want to start using the switch normally after im done with tinkering and in order to avoid any bans i guess the best solution is to return the nand to a fresh state.

Also does factory reset do the same thing and if not how is it any different? I just want to erase every trace of CFW and backup logs from the console. Waiting for your thoughts

My bad, I shouldn't assume everyone knows everything. When you restore your NAND, what you are actually doing is copying and pasting your backup into the Switch's eMMC. eMMC is just a fancy SD card that is glued into your console. Think of it like the System 32 of your console. And just like an SD card, it can become locked out due to too many "copies and pastes" or write cycles. There is also the potential that the restoration may fail because the eMMC works like an SD card.

Backup your NAND with this tool. A NAND restoration clears more traces than a factory reset does. Factory resets are like a poor man's NAND restoration and it doesn't help prevent bans all that well (otherwise Nintendo wouldn't have made it a feature). Also, since you already tinkered with your console, there are no tools currently available to make your Switch reach the point to where it was before you began tinkering with it.

Thank you! I got it now!

Just doublechecking with the community since I had a bad first experience with a patched console.
I have an unpatched console according to the serial number thread now. Am I safe to upgrade to 5.1 and run ReiNX? I don't care about coldboot.

You can update with or without burning fuses in that case.

Ok so I already asked about updating and DLC and I understand that the safest way is to not do it at this time but what is the negative side to using the devmenu to do this? I only ask because I have seen alot of utube videos saying to do it that way .
