hi everyone! first timer here I think, I signed up but not sure if I ever posted.

I purchased a 1.0.0 switch, and an r4i gold card for my 3ds. I want to do both.

I am a pretty busy person and have not followed any of the CFW updates or scene, and in fact have never installed CFW on a device of mine, ever. I am not sure where to start, there are so many methods with bugs, bans, fixes, etc. I do not mind waiting, I want my switch to be a software CFW (don't need to jig it). If I need to wait for that, no problem.

so what do I do? I want to be able to play roms on my switch, offline only. I have a second switch for the game i play online, and I buy those. I have no idea where to start, which CFW to use, I don't even know which noms to download since there are different versions and such. thank you all!

Is anything other than a jig required to run ReiNX?
Something to send the .bin file like a USB-C cable, SX Pro Dongle, or internal trinket.
SO is there any easy and free method to hack Switch ?
Free? Yes. Easy? Depends on you.
for micro SD with switch with exFAT support, what the best allocation unit size to choose?
i just let the switch format the microSD it self? the card already on exFAT.
Whatever default setting usually does the trick. Outside of that, I haven't seen any issues with 32 yet.
So you assure me that if I update my console to the last firmware following the guide to prevent fuses being burnt I am safe from bans? I don't plan to use CFWs or backup loaders until all will be safer and more user friendly.
Sorry, legally can't assure you of that. I'm only saying no one has been banned as of now for doing that. It can only be safe once Nintendo stops banning people or they tell me in person they won't ban people for doing that.

Right now, the best CFW to play "ROMs" with is SX OS. Its a CFW made by Team Xecuter who have made a name for themselves on the Xbox family. However, it costs money to use to play "ROMs". The free alternative to playing "ROMs" is rather complicated and not intended to be used for playing "ROMs" in the first place. In case you want to try tackling it, you can try following the guide here. Outside of those two, if you're waiting for a free alternative to play "ROMs" with that's easy to follow, you're going to have to wait a bit longer.

A normal USB-C cable will suffice?

First, thank you to everyone. I have updated to 5.1 with only 5 fuses burnt and installed exfat on 4.0.1 prior to that. I guess I'm in auto RCM now since when I try to turn the Switch on nothing happens. Is this the desired result? What if I need to use my switch on the gogo, without a USB cable and payload injector? Also, sleep mode doesn't seem to work.

When running homebrew, do I want to be on CFW? What if I want to use online? Just ofw only? What if I want to update my Zelda cartridge? Am I okay going online and updating it and/or using eshop? I've heard of people disconnecting their Nintendo account from the switch. When are you supposed to do that and why?

Thank you again everyone in advance for your help during this process.

  • Without AutoRCM, you risk burning fuses when you power on your console so its recommended you keep it
  • Sleep mode works on all firmwares with the latest version of Hekate. Either that was not sleep mode you were referring to or you are using an older build of Hekate
  • Homebrew cannot be run on OFW
  • Its recommended to use OFW for online but it is still not 100% safe
  • People un-link their Nintendo Accounts from their consoles because if the console is banned and they have purchases tied to the Nintendo Account on that console, they cannot use it on another Switch without calling Nintendo. If you are going to hack the console, its better practice to link a Nintendo Account to that console that doesn't store all of your vital purchases

2 questions.

The first one is easy enough (if anyone has tried it), the USB-c to A adapter included with the Samsung Galaxy S8 would be of sufficient quality as not to fuck my switch up?

2° i know no one knows for sure how would the 3.0 OFW unthetered warmboot work, but is there, at least, any rumor or indication that the cartbridge port would be necessary to make it work? ('cause i can update to the lastest firm without burning fuses but i would love to play the carts i've been buying for the last year and a bit).

  1. It is unlikely to damage the Switch as the purpose it is being used differs vastly in comparison to the units that were bricked due to third-party docks
  2. It will most likely involve loading a webpage as the exploit, Deja Vu (which works up to 4.1), is achieved this way. Also, the cartridge port is not tied to making the exploit work otherwise the developers would have issued a warning once there was a public way of updating without burning fuses

I just use my switch to play XCI files using SXOS , its really necessary to backup the "Nand"?
What is the "function" of nand on my console ??

Thanks.

Inb4: Dumb question; Nand backup its essencial to use CFW on switch.

The primary reason you would back up your NAND is in case the console gets bricked, you have a way to restore it. Think of it like the System 32 of your Switch. It contains all of the necessary information for the console to function. A secondary reason people backup their NAND is to use a clean backup prior to going online to avoid being banned.

Also report your original post to a mod so it can be deleted.

Do I have to make a new nand backup if I update the firmware?
I'm not exactly an expert on Switch hacking yet, but, If you update your firmware using the official method, then yes, you'd have to make a new backup, as the fuses being burnt upon booting up the Switch will prevent you from restoring the Nand from a backup with an earlier firmware version.

If you are following this guide https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...nofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461/ to update unofficially, you should still be able to restore your Switch with the backup you made on an earlier firmware, but I would personally still make a backup of your current firmware.

Has anyone tested a 2Gb MicrtoSD in Hekate and has it worked? What format should it be? I get an error when finding files, but the console detects it and I can save screenshots and videos from the gallery...
