Hacking Question SX OS doesn't power off my console.

I just tried that. Same result. It does the green, blue blink the first time but subsequent reinsertions cause no LED activity. Maybe inserting it while in the zombie state will power it off. I will let my Switch sit for an hour an see if it loses battery percentage.

Have you already tried powering on after dongle reinsertion with no LED activity? Normally if I power down from Horizon and leave it sit the Switch's battery will drain. So I'm not sure that my Switch is any different than yours.
I don't think our switches are different. I don't have any previous data on battery drain it's not why I'm discussing this, it could be a benefit of understanding what happens in powered down modes tho.

But if you think that since you inserted your dongle into the switch, after the power down order from horizon, might have really truely turned the switch off, mine is still in the same mode but I didn't insert a dongle, so it could still be semi-rcm, or "zombie", and our battery percentages might reflect that one was truly powered down.

Is it possible after the 12 seconds following power off there is a cap discharge which is responsible for the led activity? In other words, it's not in RCM or any zombie state just a delayed true power off.

I have only documented inserting the dongle maybe, 2 mins? after power down from horizon. In 45 mins I'll know if the light comes on after a 2 hour sit in this state.

I don't think so. Because the green, blue blink happens even if the dongle is not connected during power off and inserted after the twelve second mark. Also if it was due to discharge I would think that it would just blink green briefly. Not green, one second pause, then blue.

Maybe. I'll power on in 20 mins. If my battery precentage hasn't dropped then the only conclusion I can come to is that insertion of the dongle takes it out of "zombie state".
 
Update after 1 hour:

I booted after a shutting down from Horizon and inserting the dongle after 12 seconds. After inserting I got the green, blue blink. I reinserted the dongle and got no LED activity. One hour later I pressed power and inserted the dongle. It pushed the payload and boot Horizon (SX OS). Battery was 85% at initial shutdown and 85% on booting an hour later. After booting I shut down as soon as battery was at 84%. I'm not going to insert the dongle this time. I'm pretty sure that the percentage will be 80% or less when I boot after an hour. I'm fairly confident that inserting the dongle while in "zombie state" powers the Switch off fully.

Our results will be a little different because I did 2 hours in semi-rcm, but here's what happened:

2 hours ago, turned off switch through horizon, did not insert sx pro dongle.
Insert sx pro dongle to "zombie" switch, blue light blinks one time.
keep dongle in, press power button, blue then green light on dongle sx os boot screen on switch
battery was at 100 is now at 92.

1 hour ago I turned off a virgin switch from horizon. Turning it on now,
battery was at 100 is now at 100.

This might suggest you're right @DocAmes1980, there's an ez way to really power down with auto-rcm if you have the dongle handy.

Now, why does it go into this weird mode in the first place?

Seems like on a stock console, stock horizon issues a proper shutdown command, as my switch's battery life did not drain.
In SX menu, where you can shut down the console, the proper shutdown command seems to be sent, as users report less drain.
But in cfw, at least with SXOS, the shutdown isn't complete, or something like that, and users will see battery drain as a result.
Somehow, when in this semi-shutdown state, the switch will act like it is in RCM, but doesn't accept payloads. Seemingly attempting to send a payload to the switch while in this state will actually shut it down, all the way, no funny business.

It's as if it's not autoRCM or horizon that's the cause, but rather cfw?

@Kubas_inko Does your trinket light up if you power down from stock horizon, not cfw? With auto rcm, does it light up? Without autorcm, does it light up?

So what if I boot hekate, then go stock, and shut down? I wonder if my dongle will light up when I power off from stock horizon.

I'm guessing OFW will have the same behavior as SX OS when shutting down a console with AutoRCM installed. Try shutting down from OFW. I think the results will be the same.

They were, but a little different. Somehow from stock when I turned off, the light on the dongle blinked green, then blue, like you reported. But from sxos horizon shut down, it only ever blinks blue once, idk if that really matters but, yeah it's pretty much the same result.

Odd. Maybe based on charge level. TX's documentation is pretty shit. They don't explain what the LED colors mean. I will try OFW after booting in 15 mins.
 
Just reporting what I've found dicking around.

If I power down from SX OS, with a usb cable connected to the computer, and don't disconnect it, 12 seconds later a usb connected notification sound plays and tegrarcmsmash sees a rcm device connected. Attempting to send SX payload to the switch results in tegrarcmsmash saying "Payload injected!", but a usb disconnection notification sound plays and no SXOS boot screen shows up. I believe at this point, the switch is really powered off, tegrarcmsmash reports no rcm devices detected. If I press the power button at this point, tegrarcmsmash detects a rcm device, and any payload sent will successfully boot the switch.

If I power down from SXOS without a usb cable plugged in, but plug it in after the shutdown happens, even if it's before the 12 second mark, tegrarcmsmash works as normal, it detects rcm devices and properly boots payloads.

Why then would the sx pro dongle end up getting the switch shut down, when tegrarcmsmash sucessfully boots stuff at this point? Shouldn't it give the same results as plugging in a usb cable connected to a tegrarcmsmash pc? It's because the switch is in a zombie state, it is not off. Dongles and tegrarcmsmash will detect this mode as RCM, but it doesn't seem to actually be in RCM, as no payload will work.

Powering down from SX OS, and plugging in the dongle results in the dongle blinking one blue light for me, and if @DocAmes1980 suspicions are correct that would mean this switch is fully powered off. But when I plug in a usb cable, tegrarcmsmash detects a rcm device and successfully boots payloads.

What @mattytrog suggests is that what's happening here is the powered usb cable that is connected to the switch actually triggers the switch to boot, and in my case it boots into autorcm.

So it gets weirder I guess. There really is a zombie state here. Shutting down from horizon with autorcm installed puts switches into zombie mode. Trying to inject a payload in this state will fail, and result in complete shutdown of the switch. Pluging the switch into a powered usb source will boot the switch, even if it is in zombie state.

Update 2:

I waited an hour without inserting the dongle and when I booted it went from 84% to 79%. That lines up with my estimation of approximately 5% battery loss per hour when in "zombie state".

Seems like sx pro dongle shutdown works, but why doesn't @Kubas_inko 's trinket not shut down his switch then????

If his shutdown from horizon ends up giving him zombie switch, why then when his trinket tries to inject a payload does his stay on, while ours turns off?
