Easiest thing you can try. Charge you switch to 100%. Power it off and come to it after like 2 hours and tell us you battery %.

ok then. I have a second switch (no trinket, no autorcm/briccmii).
I have connected it to PC. Powered it off. Why is it not automatically powering on now when it is connected to PC?

Crap cable?

Unplug it and plug it in again... Ta Dah!!! POwered up...

Lol. Got you here. Try it yourself. Leave switch connected when you power it off and leave it like that. It won't just magically power it self on again.
Why would anyone create a device, which would never stay turned off, when it is connected to power?
So why is it turning on when AutoRCM is installed?

I thought I had a good handle on this but now I'm confused again. Btw I have autorcm on and I always shutdown through the Horizon menu at night. I usually lose no more than 1% battery after 9 hrs.

Lol. Got you here. This is more than enough to prove you wrong. Try it yourself. don't disconnect the cable.

FFS...

Just bloody try it!

Uninstall autoRCM

power off switch, plug in - BOOTS!

switch off WHILE CONNECTED TO PC. Unit powers off

Unplug and replug without pressing power button - BOOTS.

I`m here testing this as I sodding speak.

...Is it me?

I feel like it's not booting into rcm or powering on at all, it's powered off, but can still kinda communicate with dongles, cables, and trinkets, 12 seconds after it has turned off. That's why your lights come on on your trinket, and why my usb connect notification sound plays. But it's not in RCM.

And in your video, how you get it to actually shut off all the way, that's probably the real powered down mode.

Don't unplug it. Leave it constantly plugged in.

If autoRCM is on: Power it down from horizon. After 12+ seconds it will show up as the ahx (or whatever) device.

When it is AutoRCM is not installed: Power it down from horizon. Nothing will happen, it won't power itself on again.

Try it yourself, just don't disconnect the switch ever.

I don't have autorcm or briccmii, so just like on any normal switch.

Right, you don't have autorcm, so it's seemingly Horizon that is sending the switch into a special mode, a different powered off mode than the option you're given in sx menu.

But it is intended to do that. Bytes have been changed on the NAND to enable autoRCM. And when the little battery indicator comes on, that is from Horizon. But it cannot boot to Horizon due to being in AutoRCM. So Horizon cannot manage USB devices because it cannot boot.

This is correct and intended behaviour and is to be expected.

Everything is ok with your switch. It is just weird that you have to press the power button in order to see the payloads. I wouldn't call it special/different mode. just weird anomaly :D

There is no battery indicator after you power it down from Horizon while being constantly connected to PC. it does not show it again, after being powered down.
Why would it be booting back to horizon when you just powered it off and it is just constantly connected to power?

I'm not going to accept that I have a one off "strange" switch. There's questions here about what is happening, and I'm gonna try to figure it out. Seems like the information given here is conflicting still.

Another suggestion. Uninstall reinstall autorcm and see what it does.

My switch behaves exactly like your video shows. If I power down from horizon, I get into a mode where my dongle, cable, etc will try to communicate with the switch's RCM mode, but fail. If I power on the switch in RCM mode (mine does it with just the press of power button cause I have autorcm), the payloads can then be sent.

I am really suspecting Horizon's shutdown procedure to be the culprit here. I'm gonna call it Semi-RCM.

I just installed AutoRCM and.... it boots to RCM automatically. But whenever I push a payload, it shuts down. Still the point is, that it boots to RCM after you shut it down from horizon.

Lets try it like this...

Some scenarios...

No autoRCM, switch is on home screen =
  • Connect to PC...
  • PC communication or whatever is established as normal.
  • Select power off
  • Switch powers off and stays powered off
  • You may or may not get a small battery image come on screen. THIS IS ENOUGH TO TRIGGER RCM in AutoRCM in the BELOW EXAMPLE.

AutoRCM, switch is on home screen
  • Connect to PC...
  • PC communication or whatever is established as normal.
  • Select power off
  • Switch will power off
  • After 12 or so seconds, switch will go to RCM as the charging / USB code in Horizon cannot run (the little battery picture/animation), due to autoRCM.
  • Send a payload to get out of it or unplug and hold power off for 12 seconds.

it will do if connected to something. If you are using an internal trinket (connected using method 3 on my thread), it will behave this way. Hence method 1 & 2...

If the trinket is permanently connected, the PMIC looks like it senses a load and thinks it should be powered up or charging notification or whatever. So it won`t shut down. Hence battery drain. Also the trinket is connected permanently as the code in Hekate that controls that is disabled apparently.

Lol so funny, hahaha. Playing the smart huh?

Yes. Thanks for the video though. It would be nice to understand what's happening. I tried the same with my SX Pro:

Powered off from Horizon. With the dongle inserted there was no LED activity for 12 seconds. At the 12 second mark the dongle flashed green and then blue but no payload pushed until I tapped power. I powered off without the dongle inserted and then I inserted after 12 seconds. Same result. Blink green, blink blue, no payload. So the dongle doesn't seem to be affecting the power state.

I then tried powering off from Horizon and after power off I held the power button for 12 seconds. The dongle had no LED activity no matter how long I waited. It seems that it does truly power off if you hard power down or use the power off option from the SX boot menu.

So it seems there is a weird power state where you can't push a payload but it does drain battery. I thought that it was fully powered down when I saw the LEDs blink but no payload was pushed. I thought maybe the dongle blinked because it was connected to ground or something. Now I know that you can use the dongle to confirm power state. If there is no LED activity when you insert then you know it's off (provided it had been greater than 12 seconds since power down). If it blinks green then blue you know that you are in this weird zombie state.

Semi-rcm, maybe it's intended by Nintendo?

Can you try powering down from horizon, pluging in the dongle (12sec after) and see if the lights come on, then unplug, and replug without power button, and see if the lights come back on.

In my xp, after powerdown from horizon,12 sec in the dongle will blink blue once, but not send a payload. If I unplug and replug the dongle, the light does not show up. If I power press, the dongle will light up and send the payload.

I have 2 100% charged switches on a 2 hour test. One has Auto-rcm, booted to sx os then selected power off from horizon.
The other switch is just stock, no mods, virgin. Selected power off from horizon. Will give battery info after their 2 hour marks.

Yup. I'm just another person.

Thanks for the answer though. I guess the best option is to keep it sleeping then.
no, when you power off have the usb c dongle inserted, after its little reboot to rcm it will then tell the console to power down.

I just tried that. Same result. It does the green, blue blink the first time but subsequent reinsertions cause no LED activity. Maybe inserting it while in the zombie state will power it off. I will let my Switch sit for an hour an see if it loses battery percentage.

Interesting theory about dongle insertion forcing a true shut down. Will be interesting to gauge your battery results against mine, since mine is in semi-rcm and yours could be truly shut down.

In this scenario, my switch would not accept payloads after power off unless I pressed the power button.

Have you already tried powering on after dongle reinsertion with no LED activity? Normally if I power down from Horizon and leave it sit the Switch's battery will drain. So I'm not sure that my Switch is any different than yours.
