Is this a thing? Really don't want to have to restart my switch in order to take out the micro SD, or use FTP transfer as it would be very slow.

Well, it's possible using memloader, but that still requires restarting the switch.

Memloader works as Uumas mentioned, but it doesn't have terribly faster transfer speeds. 3-6 MB/s according to this.

what do u see as "very slow" on the ftp? if u use the ftp sysmodule (not the homebrew) you get as least the same speed as with memloader. Depens on your wifi then

Slow Wi-Fi, i'm sure the ftp app works fine but i don't have confidence in my network connection.
