How can I tell if it's a cert ban?

EDIT: If it's just an account ban... Can't you just... Use another account?
Cert ban=2124-4025
Console ban=2124-4007
Not sure what error code account ban is but to answer your question, you cannot un-link an account from a banned console. If you are referring to getting a pure account ban and not a console ban, yes you can un-link the banned one and use another account that isn't banned. This is why they usually couple account bans with console bans.

Ah, I got the console ban. How does a console ban work? If a certificate ban works with a black list of certs, then what does the console ban check for?

Console ban prohibits you from accessing the eShop and playing through the online services of games that have them. It is tied to the unique certificate your console is given by Nintendo during manufacturing. These are preset and cannot be altered.

I thought that was a cert ban. What's a cert ban then?

Certificate ban is applied to the unique certificates/headers given to games. In the case of cartridges, every cartridge has their own unique certificate and can be dumped for injection into certificate-less backups of cartridges to play them online. eShop titles have a certificate which is tied to the ticket you get when they are downloaded from the eShop (or eXhop). Nintendo has demonstrated they have the ability to ban these and not the entire console to prevent you from going online with that certificate in an effort to dissuade piracy and potential hackers from being online. It also prevents the certificate from being shared with other people in case their console is not banned. Since the console itself is not banned, it gives you hope that Nintendo trusts you enough to revoke your hacking ways otherwise they will ban your console.

If I'm not banned yet and I've only used homebrew a couple times, crashed, and used nxdreport is it possible that I'm safe? I'm unsure if I used nxdreport on 5.x or if it was earlier

@PatrickD85 Didn't you say you also ran homebrew? Maybe that was the reason for the ban and not SXOS by itself.
Yes, it could be. But we cant distinguish it in any fashion.
We dont know the trigger. All I can note it is what I did on homebrew front; emulators, hb app store, nx shell, wain, checkpoint, gcdumptool

Honestly I dont know the reason for me being banned.
I specifically stayed away from anything that would be logical for a ban, as in scene dumps, nsps, layered fs and so on.
I was in the section of people who believed privately dumped games would not be a real threat in the long run.
Sadly well I am no in the banned section as well.

I have started a conversation with Nintendo NL as to why and how,
Because with 100+ games (of which 50 tiles physically and the rest digitally) ... I am still literally a big supporter of Nintendo and well eshop acces would still be greatly appreciated :P

PS: I can access the eshop on PC and even purchase stuff (did a test with a small title to make sure)
But sadly it will not download to my Switch as it seems I have what is considered a system console ban.

We have the same situation. I was also banned yesterday with only a console ban since i can still access the eshop on pc and can purchase. At this point, all i can think of is you can get banned just by using SX OS alone.

Sorry to hear that.
But yeah it could be ... we just do not know what it is.
Did you do anything homebrew related (emulators or anything)
Just trying to get more insight as to why it happened.

pFBA is the only emulator i used and also the appstore homebrew.

it sucks, but for the other part, now I can do whatever I want, online gaming wasn't the reason why i bought a switch.

i feel you. i'm also thinking of downloading backups now and messing with devmenu.

This whole banning situation has got me in a whirlwind of mixed feelings. I can respect Nintendo coming down hard to prevent piracy, lest this get as bad as it did with the DS but Dax just wants his homebrew without having to piss his pants when he gets banned. I want my emulators and doom ports, god dammit.
U want your emulators? Emulators = piracy, so you are on the same boat. No higher morals there...

Had you powered off the Switch since the last time you used the SX OS, and did you remove the MicroSD with the payload before updating?
yes power off completely, since 3 days playing on original mode and when Fortnite ask for an update at launch, I've got the ban message, micro sd card removed each time I don't use the custom firmware and before updating

Hello guys!

I know that the subject of banning is not clear and it is still certainly mysterious, however I would like to know your opinion/knowledge about something...

I have already read that in order to play online "safely" (to minimize the risk of get a ban) from SX OS with .xci backups obtained in google -and if you are from the EU or GB- it is recommended to inject a cert of a cartridge of equal or greater size, that has not online playing, and finally be the same type (ie card1/card2).

But my question is, with respect to playing these backup obtained in Google but in OFFLINE mode and in order to minimize the risk of ban, It is safer to play them as they are (ie without a header/cert) or by the otherwise is it also recommended to inject a cert of characteristics mentioned above?

Thanks for your contributions and greetings.

Sorry do you mean insert a cert with "No online playing?"

Seemingly no one has been out and out confirmed for a ban from purely homebrew, it's SX OS that's triggering these.

If you really just want Homebrew you don't need SX OS, at all. So like I suggested before you can dump the switch and SX OS and get a new one, then use other methods for homebrew which havent been reported for wide spread bans.

thanks for the suggestion but i'll just stick to my banned console with homebrew and might as well go all-out now since i don't plan on playing online anyway.
