heh, reminds me of youtube. the part about stupid opinions, following and agreeing everything the youtuber says
I like Youtube better than this site. Mostly because it's very educational even the comments. I learn a lot from there. And there are comment sections where its mostly chill like Kid Cudi videos.

I only like Youtube when it's for musicians.
Most of the comments aren't shitposts, but actually thoughtful posts.

Elsewhere on youtube, especially for big youtubers? Nah, pass. Waste of time.

Youtube is great for learning a language, learning about history, science, hearing different opinions, or just anything really. There is a lot more people and a lot more diversity on Youtube since it's a popular site. Most comments are overall positive, and when there's conflict it's entertaining. I like when people really get into it. Usually it'll attract someone that knows their stuff. And I find it hilarious when flat earthers debate.

The one thing about gbatemp is it's community of members. I've never seen a forum where the community actually sticks together and makes friends in such abundance as here. Twitter and Facebook are far more vapid and consist of people rallying behind a specific subject and not really ever wanting to discuss things outside of that. Other gaming forums are too strict (neo/resetera) or too toxic (gamefaqs). Reddit has people there that comment for upvotes and nothing more. Gbatemp actually manages to get people together and through interactions in the multitudes of threads, actually kinda bond and such. It's really great.

not much to say coz never had twitter/facebook nor that kind of things and was a lurker of the temp for years, only recently begining to be a half-active member, but I want y'all to know that being here feels nice :3

Why do you think that is? What causes people to be civilized here?
Not really sure. If it's one thing, I'm very happy with how well the site is moderated. We get a few out of hand threads every now and again, but they're all dealt with well. Spam and whatnot is kept to a minimum, and reports are dealt with pretty quickly. It just seems like this site attracts people who generally aren't unruly.

Ever met Spectral Blizzard?

To be completely honest? Reddit is absolutely terrible. Facebook.. Well, it's Facebook... and it has occurred to me that the snobbiest of folk use Twitter as their main social outlet. Yeah, I said it. Fight me.
I won't fight you. I would try to but the power of logic is preventing me.

Eh, there's cool people and losers aplenty in my experience. Not much different from other forums, tbh.
I'll take the good with the bad, though. It's not hard to just ignore people who continually say stupid things.

Edit: Should be noted that even though I joined in 2017, I was a lurker since 2006 or 2007 (can't really remember, but I remember visiting the site from my middle school library back then).

It is because this place had good civilized people from the beginning. Whenever a toxic person joined the community back then and posted, they would just get their ass handed to them by the other members. Even if that didn't happen, they would notice the vast difference in their posts and others, and begin to see how unprofessional they really are. I know this because I joined here when I was only 11, and my first posts consisted of mostly abbreviations (lol lmao XD :D), weird capitalization, weird phrasing, etc. But then being here for just a year changed me completely, I learned a lot within that span of time. Whether someone called me out or not, a little common sense was all that was needed to see the vast difference in how I spoke compared to other people. This community even taught me about how the real right thing to do when someone yells at you, is to either just not reply or not fight back. Flame war after flame war this became clear as day, all sorts of emotional behavior was fixed because of this community and I'm very grateful for this.

And now this community has the vast majority of your 'civilized' people the way you put it. Now ignorance really cannot survive for long no matter how many new members join. Ignorance begets ignorance, and vice versa.
