T'm trying to see if translating the android version of dai gyakuten saiban is possible but i don't know anything about hacking. There's an .obb file that doesn't seem to be a .zip file, I cannot open it... can someone who knows a little about what it might be could help me? (Sorry, english isn't my native language)

.obb files are normally encrypted, you would need the encryption key contained within the game to access the data in the file. It could also be using some non-standard format (not using the official Android methods for creating and accessing the .obb file) as many do.

Is it still going on?

Non-standard, unencrypted, fully reversed for a long time already.

How do you reverse the .obb file? Scarlet Study is great but i'd like to translate it to my native language (french)
I think there already is an effort to make a direct (without English in between) translation of DGS. We do want to support other teams retranslating our version in the future, but it's not yet in a state to do so. The next release will already contain a ton of major changes to previously released Episodes and we expect this to happen again.

If other teams would take our translation as a basis to make their translation, it would mean that they would either have to keep up with our changes (which would be a lot of work for them) or they would not apply our changes in their translation. I suspect the latter would be the case. This is why we ask people to not retranslate our version yet. It's also common courtesy in the fan translation scene to ask permission before you use another teams work to build yours upon.

Again: we do want to see other language versions of DGS and we do want to support them, but it's too soon to do so at this point.

If you plan on doing a direct translation, you should get in touch with the other French translators. It's a ton of work, you will not be able to do it on your own, believe me. And even if you have the translation covered, you need:
  • lots of changes to the binary (meaning you need someone who knows ARM ASM)
  • UI changes (MT Framework uses a complicated format to describe UIs)
  • new fonts (especially if you want to use special characters in French)
  • edit textures
  • have a working patching method
  • etc, etc...
I know newcomers and outsiders often assume you just have to change some text, but running a fan translation project spans over many different fields of expertise. VNs like DGS have way too much text to translate on your own in a reasonable amount of time and keeping a team motivated over years (yes, years) and the interested people informed are also things to consider. Many fan translation teams die in the first few months.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't try, but you will fail if you try to do it on your own. Scarlet Study is a team of over 40 members with varying degrees of participation. That being said, I can certainly help you once we feel our mod is in a state that allows for others to work on it further. I can also get you in touch with other French translators if you want to. You can contact me on Discord so we don't have to go off-topic in this thread: uwabami#6413

SylverReZ @ SylverReZ: Also nice. Never really watched Fallout on Prime, but sounds like a good show. +1
