Thanks for the info on serial. I don't think I will go down this road because I already have a good setup with my android phone but I'll open my router up and try to see what's inside. It looks exactly like the one with battery that's been posted a few times so it may be interesting to check it out in case others get the same issue.

Alright, I ordered it from the stuff you linked but I have one question while I get all of my ducks in a row. Here you say:
After rebooting it, the router IP is set to static as 192.168.1.1 so you may need to connect it with an ethernet cable to your computer and force its IP address to 192.168.1.2
How do I do this, and why is it necessary? Thanks!

Probably because that is most commonly the ip address used by your main router.

This is WAY too much work. This feels like a project to do just because you can do it, doesn't seem to hold any practical application for on the go.

NXloader works till my SX comes in the mail.

The flash drive is used once for setup. Then you only need the USB C cable to connect to the console, and a micro USB cable (it comes with the router) to power it with 5V (with a power bank on my picture)
Could you help me how to config the menuconfig and the patch,I followed the David's instructions to build, but it don't work.Thanks.

I seem to have broken my dongle through usb firmware flashing, it doesn’t boot: light turns solid red, flashing red, slightly slower flashing, then back to solid red.

This is the normal behaviour of the LED when the dongle has been successfully flashed. Did you try to inject the payload on your switch with it ?

Nothing happens (switch is in rcm mode)

Are you able to connect to the dongle with Putty at 192.168.1.1 when you plug an ethernet cable (your computer must be on the same 192.168.1.* network)

If you have a usb to serial cable you can use it to access the console to :

I can't connect to it through putty, the dongle also no longer puts out it's own wifi, and I do not have a usb to serial cable

Way too much work, just get a Samd21 (arduino m0) upload Sam fusee launcher and you are done. If you want it portable get a 150mah Livo and attach

This is a bit slow on the response time, and I apologize.

I have been digging into the "WD LOGIN" variant, and found a site about hacking these devices that is in Russian, where they discuss the devices briefly. Sadly, they suggest that this model ALSO lacks a serial debug header. If you would be so kind as to validate this with a disassembly of your affected model, it would be great.

Just gently disassemble the shell, and take a good quality photo of the board, and upload it, if you can.

Having to use ethernet to set this up is a pain; I don't have any computers with ethernet anymore.
You can actually use the dongle's wifi to do the initial setup, no need for ethernet at all. You just won't be able to connect to it afterwards when it's done. But you can still change firmwares using a flash drive going forward.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
