The game developers did a good job, your comment holds no ground at all.

Yet people are so adamant about pirating them. What are you getting at here? Paying for mods and backup loaders isn't new. People did it for the past generations. Why should the Switch be different? I'll never understand how screwed up these arguments are...

Pirating is all dandy and fine, but it's laughable how people are saying you should support this company instead of pirating and cracking their own software. It screams pure hypocrisy and you're blind if you can't see that.

So you're saying only pirate when they do a bad job.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

anyways so does this mean I have to start working on the "I cracked my SX-OS" badges?

Its unrecoverable because the password hijack is not producing the password needed, if it happens at some time, and because of the modified code it could be non recoverable
No it isn't. A) you can set PERM_PSWD_DIS do prevent emmc encryption, and B) you can easily force erase the encrypted emmc by coding a simple piece to trigger the erase option for MMC_LOCK_UNLOCK and afterwards flash back a NAND image.
Or you can just buy a new emmc for $20 and flash the nand to it and you'r good to go.

The argument is the following:
  1. If one cares about supporting developers, that necessarily means that you should not pirate games.
  2. If one doesn't care about supporting developers, that necessarily means that there's no less reason to pirate SX OS than there is to pirate games.
In other words, there's no argument for pirating games but not SX OS.

I agree, I suppose some people think it's priced fairly. Where as a game cost double.

So you mean spending money to fix something that you saved money by cracking :P

or you force erase the emmc and reflash a nand image. or you prevent the emmc encryption.
Dude its too much hassle just to save 30 bucks, maybe for cheaps is good but you lose everything, if on an update they make it even more difficult wel you are SOL, but for everyone is the cake isnt it :P

well certainly you don't loose anything, a raw emmc dump contains all userdata, so theres nothing to worry about, also there's no chance on triggering the encryption code at random booting, also just preventing the emmc from being encrypted is a matter of sending a payload that sets PERM_PSWD_DIS and then you'r good to go, no hassle at all.

And that's a completely valid point, but it just seems kinda dumb that people are bringing morals into this when everyone's just in it to pirate shit.
Solid point. Still, an ironic and hypocratic stance to be against piracy, but try and crack a piracy enabler.

I'd rather trust people who are transparent than a hacking group who likes pissing in peoples' mouths out of spite just because they had some of their thunder stolen. BFD. Bricking code is just a last ditch effort, kind of like that child who throws a temper tantrum every time their favorite toy is taken by an older sibling.

I.e. brick code is a dick move. DRM is for cowards.
I really see no issue with the code being implemented. They released something (Yes it is piracy) that no one else was going too. The brick code is to stop counterfeit copies of it. So cracking and reselling the device/"OS". I'll still use it regardless on a second switch.

Who's thunder is getting stolen though? I'm not trying to argue, but they are just doing what gateway did. Alls it does is split a community though. Yes the DRM is a bigger push, but Im not surprised with it. They have to make money somehow. So I wouldn't really say for cowards, more of a "you no steal work" type of thing.

Funny how devs have always been super anti-piracy, but when it comes to tx that all goes out the window.

Maybe they consider it 'fair game' since 'backups' and backups are one of it's key usage scenarios.

I have no plans to use SX OS legit or cracked, but I do laugh at the idea of it being cracked considering that they (TX) do and the irony of it.

Yet people are so adamant about pirating them. What are you getting at here? Paying for mods and backup loaders isn't new. People did it for the past generations. Why should the Switch be different? I'll never understand how screwed up these arguments are...

Allot of the time though there was some necessity to it e.g. modchips, glitch chips, etc.

Even then, options like PS3 Jailbreak got cracked resulting in clones/open source alternatives before being replaced by CFW.

So you could say cracking mods and backup loaders isn't new either.

yes if you say so..... we will believe....we will have a lot of bricked switches because of people being cheap

He mentioned the following on his blog:
In sum, my stance on piracy is very clear: it's a despicable and toxic practice that goes directly against the morals and values of the homebrew community. It completely discredits our attempts to show companies that we are capable of building positive solutions by modifying their products.
Yet he is ok with cracking SX OS and releasing it to the public which would result in more people pirating?

I really don't think they're gonna end up releasing anything at all due to their shared stance on piracy, but it's not like I can predict the future or anything.

Technically, no. However, there's no real benefit from it here. It's just an ill-gotten attempt at putting somebody else down for their work. Hex is against piracy, but is set on cracking SX OS for public. Which, I just don't see why. If it were to RE the backup loader, that's one thing.. But that's not what's happening here.

Yeeeeeah... unless you’re working for those companies, I doubt they want you to tamper with their products even if your intentions are good.

If a crack for SX OS is released now knowing there is brick code I will definitely be holding off and letting other people be the testers first.
I hope this at least means the backup loader can be implemented onto say Atmosphère or another open-source cfw.

An underrated opinion: While Bluesky as a platform is better than Twitter, Bluesky's userbase won't be better than Twitter as people are saying because everyone from the non-bootleg site are moving to the bootleg one expecting for themselves to change with their attitude, but that never works like that.
