Hardware Resistors for joycon rail mod?

Hello all. I got my joycon rail in the mail today, and am planning on soldering in a resistor to pins 1 and 10 on the inner circuit board. I was wondering if anyone knows what resistor strength would be appropriate to use, as I have a bunch that came with my arduino starter kit.

Also, which direction should I solder the resistors to? Towards 1, or towards 10? Diagrams would be helpful if there are any.

No idea on the best value for it, but why don't you do the magnet switch or a physical button instead which is then 4 ever not shorting, its just once for the RCM and then has completely 0% shorting on the pins...
 
Well I don't even know why would anyone want to use a resistor when you can buy magnetic reeds\switch for cheap and you only short for entering RCM by using a neodymium magnet and then is 4 ever not shorting a single bit, much better than a permanent short with or without a resistor...

On mine I'm planing to actually add a physical ON\OFF button, but I'm still waiting for atmosphere to open the console, do cooling mods, add a switch on my joy-con, however I still need to find a very small ON\OFF switch somewhere over my house, I know I had some super tiny switches from other devices, just don't know where they are :).

Also you can still add the resistor to the switch or magnetic reed if you really want it...

I just went with a 10K ohm resistor, because I bought a right joycon rail and intend on using just the end as my RCM jig. There's even a little ring that's perfect for hooking it to my keys. I'll even post a pic of it later on.

If I have trouble with the 10K Ohm resister, I'll replace it with something lower. Working with the few bits from the Arduino starter kit, too lazy and impatient to order anything special XD
 
I prefer modding the actual controller as the biggest problem 4 me is exactly constantly detaching the joy-con, attach a jig or any other crap to short, then remove it, then attach the joy-con... I prefer never removing the joy-con it self as even ppl all original before the console was hacked already had a huge amount of bad rail\joy-con reports because of constantly taking out and putting back in all the time.

I only used and plan to use my console portable, so I don't even bother removing the joy-cons all the time. I have the Switch for a few months and I still didnt even tried the dock, its still in the box.

I've removed the joycons plenty of times, and didn't wanna open my original neons to put in a reed switch. and then I'd have to carry a magnet all the time. Honestly, for me personally, this is a far smoother solution. Gonna get a pic and show what I mean shortly (more laziness from high temperatures to actually go get the jig than anything else).
 
I know what you mean... other ppl done it and shown pics it gets like a very small dongle at the end, but its still just a dongle like any other, just with higher quality as its original.

But anyway the neodymium magnet is very small, you don't need anything big, it can be carried literally everywhere, something like a button type battery size will probably do the trick and maybe even smaller as they are powerful.

But I my self still prefer having a new red small ON\OFF button, Red for SOS :toot:.
 
This is what I did. Just a simple resistor put into pin 1/10. Has a ring for my keys. Gonna put some glue on the top, and its ready for action anytime I need it :) all from an official rail :)

I just noticed that it fits into my joycon strap, which is perfect, because my case holds both straps nicely, so its well put away without being in the way. It doesn't get stuck either, slides in and out very nice and easily. No need for the keyring now either haha!

What value resistor did you use, i was gonna use a 10k but apparently thats wrong.
 
I just did this mod today. I put the 10k 0805 resistor on a spare rail to test it out (used multimeter to test my work) switch refused to go into RCM mode.

I installed the modded rail into a joycon and it works as expected.
