You can't officially downgrade games on switch(For example, downgrade Mario Odyssey from 1.2.0 to 1.0.0), it will be possible anytime soon? or will be imposible like downgrade the system itself?

Stupid flan... of wait this is a legit question for once.

I'm not sure, i would assume its similar to other Nintendo systems where you can go into the system settings and uninstall but I've never been online so not sure

Should be (edit: with CFW, see posting below) - but. :)

The BotW save game editor just identified the version of my BotW install correctly - so savegames might be locked to a certain version of a game (and higher), which could easily make it not viable. :)

Nope, the Switch saves the update version and if you try to downgrade the game won't work, even if you format the console.

Possible with CFW, it could even happen some time soon with hateko since it should be a pretty simple patch.

So where is the update saved? On the cart or the system? I think i remember someone with a botw 000 cart that had a similar issie now that i think about it

Cartridges are read-only hence why the saves are stored on the system so I'm guessing that data is also on the switch

Should be on the system. Cards should be read only.

The person who had a similar issue, first used the 001 version of the game afair (told him, that it required an update, he didnt update) - and it was suggested, that the switch would have saved the min required firmware version of that game, so even when he tried a 000 cart later on - no dice.

Bearing in mind that I wasn't paying close attention at the time, but... As I recall, when I first got my Switch, I popped in my copy of Zelda, it wanted to update, so I let it (I was on 4.1 at the time), then for reasons I don't remember I decided to delete all the game data off my Switch and start over. From what I remember, the game then wanted me to download and apply the latest update again.

What I'm understanding from this thread is that if I lose my game card and buy a replacement, if the version numbers on the new game card don't match the version associated with my game save, then the save is incompatible

That sucks

That may not apply to every game, but the safest course of action is to assume it does until you know it doesn't.

Only if the replacement is older than the version on the original cart, and only if you don't update the game.

This may be possible at a later date. Title downgrading is possible on their past consoles by editing some system files, wouldn't expect it to be any different here. Likely more information will come around when everyone can develop properly, and not need a targeted system version with 3.0.0 or whatever.

Usually the smaller things come later while the big honchos get your hax going.
