Trinities and Coronas barely suffer from RROD.
Unless you purposely block the air circulation in those consoles.

Keep temperatures below 60c and you'll be fine (which is not hard to achieve on Slims)

Well thats the thing, this is what makes this info really interesting for Corona/Trinity. We know that they dont really suffer from RROD (red dot), so we know that whatever tresholds MS set are good to keep/have. So that makes it that much more interesting to see what MS set so we know to stay at those is good and below even better. if MS set Trinity to keep 80C, and they dont suffer from RROD (red dot), then we know keeping 75 is great. No need to run fans extra loud and wear out the bearings needlessly.

You're not wearing out the fan bearings by upping the the fanvoltage.
They're designed for 12v.

That statement makes no sense. Its a mechanical device the more RPM = more wear, thats just physics. The fact that its designed for 12v means very little as well. We know that 360 uses variable voltage to run/adjust the fan according to the temps. The fan was designed, built and tested to work under normal working conditions, meaning not at full power, without Johnny or Timmy going in there and cranking it up, in fact there is probably a nice Gaussian distribution graph at MS dev test showing how the fan will perform for the lifespan of the console (to MS this is probably 7 to 10 years) under 40 to 60% voltage. And at the high end of the statistical support distribution it likely has terrible life expectancy E(X=x).

All the physics and statistics aside though, the lower RPM on the fan the quieter the box is. Surely everyone wants the quietest box possible.

Even at lower revs, they'll die one day.
Lowering the fan voltage to save the fans instead of your hardware is idiotic

If you don't want them to die, go for watercooling.
That’s like saying you should downshift to slow your vehicle rather than using the brake pedal.

Ergo, you wanna replace a clutch, or brakes?

Pretty much that yeh.

Moving parts are subjected to wear and tear, they just die one day.

Who is choosing between saving fans or hardware? You seem a bit too black and white on this issue without any gray area. Running it at needlessly high RPMs is also idiotic. Running a desktop CPU at 70C is perfectly acceptable... you could crank up your fans and get it down to 50C but thats just a waste of electricity and needless wear on the fans and your ears.

Like I said initially, even if you take all of the good engineering reasons not to crank up your fans it is still very beneficial to find the sweet spot where you keep your fans only as fast as they need to be to reduce noise. Finding that sweet spot should be easy with simple deduction as I already outlined. We know that Slims arent prone to RROD. We need to find out the stock cooling profiles put in them by MS and then just undercut it by a percentage. Like lets say 5 degrees. That would make it so that you are saving both fans and the hardware, and on top of that your ears. A MUCH better solution than the one you are proposing which is "Fuck the fans and my ears, cool it as much as you can", thats like using a sledgehammer to kill a fly.

Fans only use a watt or 2 on power ;')
Saving on electricity is the dumbest reason I ever heard ;')

Just set the fan speed to 65% or something similar and keep the temps below 55c.

Thats a brute force approach. I dont like it.

And again you seem to type up a response before reading what I said and thinking about it. Ill repeat myself for the 3rd time, in as plain words as I can.... the main reason is noise. 65% fan is crazy loud even if you replace the fan with a ball bearing one as opposed to the sleeve bearing.

Also knowing PowerPC architecture and its heat operating range, trying to keep it at 55C with air is not very smart.

If noise bothers you then do what you like. You can set target temps in Dashlaunch as well besides static fan speeds. That’s what I do, but I still go for 55ish temps. There’s no performance issues. I blast my sounds so I don’t notice the fans. Some folks use headphones.

Also, it’s not the Power PC Xenon CPU you’re trying to keep temps down on, it’s the ATI Xenos GPU. It runs hot and you can extend its lifespan by keeping it ran at cooler temps. Especially if it still has non-lead solder underneath.

MS engineering, or any engineering isn’t as reliable or foolproof as you’d like to believe. There’s a difference between looking good on paper and performing acceptably in real world application. Otherwise you wouldn’t have recalls.

In the end, it’s your console so you do what you want with it. We’re just sharing our own experiences that yielded the most satisfactory results thus far.

Right, and I dont trust MS's engineering one bit, what I do trust is statistics, so whatever MS put in as tresholds was a good config. I am just trying to find out what it is to use as baseline.

If you don't trust MS's engineering, then why do you trust MS's statistics?

Mate, why are you purposely being difficult?
All we do here is try to advice you to up the fans a bit so you can enjoy your console longer.

Im sorry Im not trying to be difficult. Its just what you are telling me I already know. I asked a specific question and you guys are just saying that what I want to know is not important and I should not care. Think about it from my perspective. Im fine with dropping it though. At this point I am convinced that the info is simply not available.

Temps on my v3 falcon (that's what it's identified as from nand) taken using the temperature log plugin for dashlaunch at 20 second intervals. Ignore date as I don't really bother to set it.

Fans are at 70% in fsd and I have a 120mm intake fan instead of a dvd drive.
Sorry for the revive, but do you possibly have a link for the plugin you used to log your temps?

I wouldn't worry if you have temp thresholds. I have my cpu, gpu, and ram set to 60 degrees C. I'm using a falcon too. sure, it's somewhat loud, but I've never had a problem with my jtag for about 12 years. I no longer play it, just test things for people.

I don't have the plugin in question or else I'd upload it. I'm only using one plugin, and that's to download artwork when there was an issue for both FSD and Aurora around April. it worked without a problem where before FSD would crash due to some problem on their end.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I'm also using the fakenaim plugin, but that's not in the plugin section. one of my friends said that it's been known to corrupt the nand, but I've been using it for like 7 years (always reinstall it with each nand update), and I've never encountered that problem. I left the bootanim.xex in with the latest dash kernel, so it shows both on my system. I was just too lazy to rename it or delete it from the flash.

This is the plugin that generates those log files.

I don't know if it works with the newer dashes & don't know if it works with slim consoles, also iirc it makes the built in disc swap plugin in fsd stop working (uses the same memory space or something like that). There was only ever that one release.

Not sure the compatibility issue was ever fixed on the dash side (doubt it), but the temperature log and Disc Swapper 1.1 plugin, do work fine together, so you can use that to swap your discs if you wanted to use it for some reason.

I have XBOX 360 E with a corona board
My CPU was around 80 - 83 C
I upped the fan to 55% ... and it is now at 60 -70 C
60% fan speed seems too loud for me.
Is 60-70 C safe temps?

I wanna grab a 360 Slim and a 360 E one of these days. Missed the boat of getting them at their lowest though, once they were discontinued. Could've got them for cheap back when I was a broke 20 something working at Target, but then again, I was a broke 20 something working at Target
