AMD to begin sampling Zen 2 7nm chips this year
Lisa Su, the Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has confirmed in a Q1 2018 Earnings call that the company will be sampling the 7nm chips, beginning this year, as quoted.
We have a 7nm GPU based on Vega that we’ll sample later this year. And then, obviously, we have a number of products that are planned for 2019 as well,” ... That will be in production in 2019, and we do believe that the adoption rate of the second-generation could potentially be higher than the adoption rate of the first-generation, mostly because customers will be more familiar with our systems and our products.
This follows last year's successful financial year for the company, and the company plans to attain ambitious goals with this product. We can expect this new adaption to release some time in 2019. Intel is yet aiming to release its 10nm Cannon Lake processors in a similar time frame.
