Okay I get it now. But then why does stuff like when people say use 8.8.8.8 for having a speed boost in internet? I seen youtube videos doing this on their ps4 game consoles. o_o

It does not actually increase internet speed, but certain servers could be faster at "delivering" what you ask it for from the servers end. It will not increase bandwidth / download speeds etc. but could give you lower latency or get the webpage slightly faster.

So is dns only useful for switch since it can't insert URL web pages manually? Or is it useful for other consoles as well? (Not just for blocking updates)

It highly depends on the console. Most exploits use a vulnerability in the web browser (webkit) as webpages obviously have a lot of potential in loading custom code. Wii U as an example loaded a custom video containing code that would take advantage of a bug in the video playing module in the browser, to gain access to parts of the memory usually restricted. In this case there is no need for DNS outside of blocking updates, since you can navigate to the URL containing the exploit by yourself. In this case we also had all the files we need (payload) on a SD card.

Now if we have a working browser, but no SD card slot or any other way of loading the payloads we could use a DNS server hosting such files. Pegaswitch uses this, it hosts the files on a DNS server running on your computer.

is there a way to get it on 1.0 or we have to wait for a firmware. is it related to the homebrew cause of my understanding we have fake news and we can launch pega switch.
kindly someone clarify

Unfortunately it kinda needs the wifi landing page to open, which 1.0.0 is incapable of.

It’s amazing! I have a question... It’s possible play pokemonshowdown with SwitchBru? (I think is HTML5 Web) I love the competitive Pokemon and if i can play with my Switch that WOW amazing!

So, if is possible can you add this on SwitchBru c: <3?

I'm actually not sure, but you should definitely give it a try! Let me know if it works and I might add it to the useful links.

We're actually 90% sure it blocks updates already. It opens the browser when any attempt is made to connect to the internet. :)
Okay someone just had a go, and apparently with the DNS connected trying to update in settings does in fact let the update go through. We're not 100% sure this is the case though. However, as long as you disconnect from your wifi after using this server, which you would probably want to do anyway, it should be okay. It definitely won't update in the background while the browser is open, and proper update blocking IS definitely planned for the future.

This is a reeeeally cool project but I have 1 question: what is the SwitchBru account useful for? owo
Thank you! SwitchBru Accounts will be for adding friends on the server, and for messaging people. It's to add social features to the console, similar to the console's own UI, in order to fulfil a missing feature. :)

Ah good to hear.
Also updates won't install themselves on the Switch, right?
So there's always the "full power off method" to erase the update data I guess?

This is so cool! I'm creating mine right now! :D
Thank you! Should be exciting when you have other users to add as friends and people to message!

ok thank but if we use the switch bru dns the nintendo switch can do the update?
It should only update if you specifically get it to. If you just turn your wifi off or change the DNS or something after using the server, it should be fine.

I believe that is correct, yeah.
