Hacking Question about the whole sharing game updates method

So i read a thread saying you can update switch games while on an older firmware as long as you have another switch with the game currently updated and can just use the share game updates option but what im wondering is can i use the same cart of a game as in can i say put my cart of botw on someone elses console update it then transfer updates and still use it on my switch or would i need to update my switch in order to play the cart again

I believe both systems need to be on the same firmware to share game updates.

Your Switch will get system updated only if the decryption (not the ability of downloading) of the game update requires it.
