Tomb Raider III was very good. The variety of the levels surroundings were pretty cool (temple/jungle/isle etc.).
Tomb Raider IV was mostly inside dark buildings/caves but the puzzles were much better and harder. I think this was the hardest game of all.
Tomb Raider V is a mix of both above. I like all 3 pretty much. + the secrets :3

Angle of Darkness was very buggy and up until today I didnt play it. So I cant say anything about that.
Everything newer had too much 3rd-person-shooter elements and puzzles were mostly non-existant. They were all meh.

EDIT: I like the combination of survival, hard puzzles and some mystic-scary elements in them (scarab level in IV for example). Do you know the feeling when after 2 hours of aimlessly walking you find a hidden switch and a door opens. After finding the door you get the secret sound and you are extremly disappointed :D

The newer games forgot about those machanics and made some kind of hack'n'slay just with weapons. Pushing a switch behind 100 enemies is nothing I can call a puzzle.

Cool thanks for the replies. I saw some people saying the most recent reboot series was good, but are you saying it's less like classic Tomb Raider in genre?

Anyone else have opinions? I don't think I played any since the first two maybe.

I liked the first one (atlantis related story) and because it was new and amazing to play for its time.
second was fine but I forgot the story (not so great then). I didn't finish the 3rd one I think.

I didn't play the other ones until the reboot.
Maybe one day I'll play them all.

I liked a lot the first reboot.
Second one was correct, but I still prefer the first one, depicting a young and innocent Lara struggling to survive to become who we know now. I hope third will be amazing. I like Aztec and Mayas, Guess we will find Eldorado this time (again?).
The reboot are fantastic, but I felt like the second one missed a little the spirit of "exploring ancient civilizations"or "tombs" covered with mysteries . there were dungeons, but part of the story. I liked more the first reboot with optional tombs to explore.

So, I liked 1st old, and 1st reboot :p
waiting for the movie released in few days.

edit:
Oh, and I really would like to try the isometric-view series, nicknamed "Lara croft". (too bad there's no port of PS3 game to PS4)
There's also a prince of persia sideway view game (lara croft go?) not sure what it's worth.

Angle of Darkness
 - Shit I'm gonna have to watch Hot Fuzz later now I've read that..."Morning Angle!"
Angle of Darkness... doesn't sound like it'll be a-cute one then (I'll let myself out)

Same as Cyan here, played the very first before Mario 64 so it was like WOW, and the first reboot was decent. Never rated the others, including the newest one.

Look, it is kinda hard to debate on it. Bkz tomb raider was always the best at its time. But yeah, everyone has its own likes and dislikes.
I loved Tomb Raider Chronicles. The riddles and the suspense were so cool at that time.
Second Best was Tomb Raider Underworld, Anniversary and Legend. That is a bit weird kz I don't know why I cannot rank them second third or fourth. For me, these three installments of tomb raider rank on a single position. They are good as well.
And Last but not the least Tomb Raider 2013, The best reboot I witnessed after a long time.
