Nintendo Switch firmware 5.0.0 released

After being hinted at by the iOS version notes for Nintendo's parental control app, the Nintendo Switch has received the firmware update for version 5.0.0. The last update to the Nintendo Switch, and previous current firmware, was version 4.1.0 which released in December of last year. The new update to 5.0.0 adds new avatars from Kirby and ARMS, changes to parental controls, and as always, everyone's favorite; system stability improvements. While this is a major update in terms of version number, it appears that the changes here are relatively minor in scope. You can see the full changelog in the quote below.

Added the following system functionality
Facebook and Twitter friends that also use Nintendo Switch can now be added through Friend Suggestions
Friend suggestions are based on the Facebook and Twitter accounts you have linked to your Nintendo Account
To view your friend suggestions, from the top left of the HOME Menu head to your User Page > Friend Suggestions
You must be 13 or older to use this feature
Select from 24 new ARMS and the Kirby series icons for your user
To edit your user icon, head to your My Page on the top left of the Home Menu > Profile
Digital software purchases made from a PC or smart device will start downloading sooner than previously, even if the Nintendo Switch console is in Sleep Mode
Filter News to view only unread news or news from specific channels
To keep the Parental Controls PIN private, the default method for PIN entry has been changed to entering using the Control Stick and buttons instead of the on-screen number pad
When prompted to enter you Parental Controls PIN, press and hold the + Button to change between input methods
Captured videos in the Album will be restricted by Parental Controls depending on the Restricted Software setting and Software Rating Organization
Using the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, add specific software titles to your whitelist to exclude them from the console’s Parental Controls Restricted Software setting
Play-Time Limit restrictions will still apply even when the software title has been whitelisted.
Receive notification when pre-purchased software is ready to play
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller grip colors will now display in the Controllers menu
General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience, including:
Resolved an issue that caused Play Activity to display incorrectly in the Profile section of your User Page

As always, if you have any interest at all in homebrew, be sure to stay at the lowest possible firmware you can.

If i try to add friends from 3DS/Wii U, i always get 2162-0002 blackscreen error. Is this a issue from my console or from the update itself?

I'm so scared  What if Kirby's cartridge comes with the 5.0 update?
At first I was going to get it digital, but since this stupid, useless update came before, forcing me to block it via dns... I have no other option but to get it in physical.

But what if, in order to be able to play it, it's necessary to be on fw 5.0? A la Pokkén with the 3.0 update.

if its a very expected game, im pretty sure 5.0 will be included in the cartridge :(

Just delete your WiFi settings.. Saves you the trouble..
True.
Although given how people is confirming they're still able to play online despite remaining on 4.1 I'd suggest just blocking the update will suffice for now.
Edit: lol nvm post below confirms it is no longer possible :ha:

Nooooooo.....I cant play splatton anymore!!!!!

Guess it’s time for finally hone my skills to complete Zelda on master mode.
And I will probably complete Mario vs Rabbit. Have like one box I cannot find. Might also continue Desigea 5 also. Try to max out my stats.

I hope that Kirby is not a 5.0 game also. If it is, I’ll update!

I'll have to update then :hateit:
Not the Kirby is THAT worth it, but I'll have to update for Smash anyway so...

Hopefully emuNAND and hacks for 4.1.0 are out by then, although I don't think so. But this means Nintendo will win considering how popular Smash is.

GG WP Nintendo. You got us.

Hopefully cfw is publicly released before Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion comes out

I'd hate not to be able to play it after I pre-ordered it.
That's why you update. We all know people will be mass-updating after Smash Bros is released, so why not get ahead of the game before we fucking crash Nintendo's update servers with all the Switches mass-updating?

I can confirm, after the "server maintenance" at 5:50pm Pacific Time, you are now required to update to 5.0 to play splatoon online

The only online game I have is Xenoverse 2 but I can say that I can still go online as of writing. I haven't received the update nag as I'm usually in airplane mode and when I'm not, I'm in a multilobby in the game. I'm guessing that the update won't download while in the multilobby so I go back into airplane mode before quitting the game.

Guys, 5.0.0 is almost guaranteed to not be on Kirby cartridges at least for now.
A: I believe review copies are the same things we get, just sent sooner. Therefore, someone who got one would have to have seen that update.
B: The cartridges were probably manufactured at least a couple weeks ago so there would be time to ship them. The 5.0.0 update would have had to already been finalized when the cartridges were manufactured in order for them to contain the update.
