I mean it is kind of a masturbatory process to release images of your hacks online but never the hacks themselves. We have no way of verifying the hacks even really exist, so they might as well just say "we put Linux on Switch today" rather than posting a pic. People will believe them either way.

It's not more masturbatory than showcasing anything else you've done yourself. And again, they are not even flaunting their shit on forums, we literally come to them. Heck, I don't even know anything about them, I barely know what they have done, just saying it's fine to show your own shit...and especially on your own profiles lmao.
And come on dude..they have done more than enough to prove themselves legit, jesus christ. Yeah, I'm sure the PS4 presentation at 33c3 was all faked and staged, was just a PC and not a PS4 at all.

Their obviously against enabling piracy which is fair enough, however they do release things that contribute to open source projects where possible.

This is a thread about Linux on the Switch, everyone here is moaning they never release anything. All I did was point out that they actually did release a lot of stuff for the PS4 related to Linux. Implying they would likely do the same with the Switch at some point.

You need to keep in mind a lot of people who do this stuff are in it for the challenge of reverse engineering. You then have other people like smealum who are passionate about console homebrew, then on the flip side Team Xecuter who are all for piracy.

People just need to chill and stop acting so entitled every time someone with a different viewpoint on console hacking / reverse engineering posts something. It's stupid to dismiss this for the reasons people are starting.

And it's equally foolish to blindly defend a group that's done nothing but shit on Nintendo consoles by only teasing.

Did they release anything for the Wii?
Did they release anything for the 3DS?
Did they release anything for the Wii U?


If they answer is no, you are correct. They've contributed nothing to the Nintendo hacking scene, but of course, they had to cater to the PS4 scene, didn't they? People need to dial back the ePeen stroking a bit.

I'm sorry but I'll trust the modchip team over F0F any day. At least they care about the Switch hacking scene.

Are you implying that they are in it for the challenge of reverse engineering?? Oh come on. That couldn't be further from the truth. I myself is a software dev who is also very into reverse engineering. Tho I spent my days hacking MMOs and am new to the console scene as you can tell from my account. Let me tell you... The people who are really in it for the challenge and do it purely out of personal interest will ALWAYS keep their findings to themselves or only a small inner circle. You don't show off and brag about your shit to the noobs(normal players) who will never have the technical knowledge to understand it or participate in an intellgent discussion about it. The only time someone would do that is when they are solely in it for the attention and their ego fed, while creating drama and looking like an ass at the same time. There is just no good that can come out of this kind of behavior. FOF is not helping Nintendo, nor are they helping the community.

Release or not, it doesn't matter on the long run.
They have proven it's possible. Someone else will eventually be able to replicate the work.

I do know some people around here were left out with a bitter taste from the WiiU situation, but honestly, it's really not helping to whine about the past and bash the group of developpers.

They made their shit to work, and it's really impressive, even under the impression of "showing off".

A thread like this is pretty much why most developpers have been hating GBAtemp lately. This is really not the attitude someone would want from people when they work on something.

If you're gonna work on stuff for yourself then that's fine, you just shouldn't expect a ton of gratitude from people who gain no benefit from it. Like you said, some other group will replicate and release, and that group will get all the praise and credit for it.

Really, putting Linux on a PS3/PS4 shouldn't be considered "hacking" on that regard.
It's more or less simply making some sort of app that runs a pre-modded Linux/Gentoo kernel that loads the modules and hardware to run on the Linux OS on the console.
You are NOT releasing anything of interest that benefits hacking the console itself as a whole (unless I'm missing something).

Linux for PS3/PS4 is a mere app.
They had a working kernel hack when they bragged about it as well, yet they did nothing to release such a thing until others released said hack, then they simply put the Linux mod to run on PS3/PS4 for grabs.
Nothing important tbh.
