I have an o3DS that I had EmuNAND on. I followed this guide (https://3ds.guide/finalizing-setup) up to the point of updating my CFW to Sys 11.6.0-39U. After that, I installed a theme from CHMM (https://gbatemp.net/threads/chmm-custom-homemenu-manager.379349/ not CHMM 2). My custom theme was loaded after the device rebooted, but to my horror, I realise that the system was no longer running on CFW: - None of the apps that were installed could be accessed - The device no longer booted from the SD card (so GodMode9 no longer worked) - System Settings showed the version to be Ver 11.6.0-39U (previously, it was Sys 11.6.0-39U)

I have tried deleting the custom theme that was installed, but to no avail. Is there anything I can do, short of reinstalling CFW? Since this is 11.6.0-39U and I don't have a second 3DS.

CHHM can't remove B9S from a system.
I have a few of theories of what happened so please bear with me and answer a few questions.
Can you post a screen shot of your SD card?
If you hold select and power on the system do you get the Luma3DS Configuration menu?

I think that you installed the theme to emunand and did not set to boot emunand

No configuration menu pops up no matter which buttons I press on boot, unfortunately.

Another member mentioned that I could have installed the theme to EmuNAND. But by this stage, I had already uninstalled EmuNAND from my SD card...

No, we mean the filesystem!
Show us a picture of the root of your SD card!

No real input but the picture of the sd card caught me off guard and made me laugh.
They're asking for a picture of what's in the SD card.. not the actual card lol.

I've reattached the screenshots of the root folder of my SD card, as well as the luma payloads folder.

The situation that I'm in seems very similar to this person's (https://gbatemp.net/threads/11-6-update-gateway-bin-lost-b9s.487000/), though I made sure not to boot Gateway on SysNAND 11.6 (previously I was using SysNAND 11.2 and GW EmuNAND 11.2).

If it's indeed the case that I lost B9S due to CHMM, I'm thinking of getting an ntrBoot-compatible flashcart and restoring my B9S. I have a backup of my Gateway EmuNAND at 11.2. After that, could someone link me to a guide as to how I can have:
- Luma SysNAND 11.6 on Power, and
- Gateway EmuNAND 11.2 on Power + Down?

3ds.guide doesn't really mention this, and I'd like to avoid deleting my B9S again due to software carried over from my Gateway EmuNAND. Thanks for your help!

The fact you got a old3ds system and now that you mention a hint of gateway makes me think that CHMM is not at all at fault but is that you accidentally launched gateway in one the manners that would remove CFW altogether. Whether it was done intentionally or not it kinda sounds reasonable now.

I don't think your B9S was removed, I still think its there.
I would now like a screen shot of your Nintendo 3DS folder with data modified visible.
Just to confirm you where running gateway EmuNAND?
How did you boot it before? MenuHax?

Mm, well... everything was fine only until I used CHMM, though I don't quite understand how using CHMM could launch GW in a way that would remove CFW.

Which subfolder of the Nintendo 3DS folder would you like?

I wasn't running Gateway EmuNAND anymore after I updated SysNAND to 11.6, because I was concerned that it could remove CFW. Prior to that (when SysNAND was at 11.2), I used this method: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/

Just the Nintendo 3DS folder it self, got a an idea of whats happened.
2 More questions before I go to bed (Ill check any new posts tomorrow) , if you hold select during and power on the system, does it boot to the Home Menu or or dose it load the Luma Config screen?
When modding the system following the guide, did you download the latest Luma 9?

The 3DS boots to the same Home Menu irrespective of whether I have an SD card in or not. Whatever buttons I press (Select, Power, Down, etc.) at startup do not work...

firmware over 11.2 rewrites the FIRM on boot if it can, Luma blocks this, but GateWays cfw -doesn't.

so if you booted GW on 11.6 sysnand, you lost B9S. GW should only ever be booted on emunand on fw over 11.2 (I think it's 11.2, not a gw owner)

That's probability what happened then. With the screenshots of the SD card root/Nintendo 3DS/playloads folder my theories where thrown out the window.
Looks like @azureflare will need to do NTRBootHax. Good catch @GizmoTheGreen
