You need to take better care of your things. Especially since it's a $400+ hybrid system that shouldn't have a sleep mode anyway. I never understood why systems needed a sleep mode. Turn it completely off if you're not using it.

Sleep mode definitely didn't do whatever happened to OP's console. The purpose of it is to download stuff when idle and/or eliminate boot time altogether.

it's a public server, not my friends per se, all of the servers i'm in have some sort of nsfw room where you can just spam whatever porn


UPDATE: i called in, it's a battery leakage, apparently the first ever case that's been reported in, we can't send it in and we have to wait for a callback to know what to do with it

I think the issue the way you tackle the claim, you can just all in and claim it was a battery leakage and imply you do not think its anything different and should be able to claim regardless under the warranty, whereas if you hint that it could be something else, then really its a get out for nintendo to claim its not their fault and charge you basically 100 to swap out/trade to a new console, comes down to what you have done already, if you have entered the switch serial and logged any info etc could well be screwed as maybe implied its a unknown issue, they could easily turn around and nix the claim, saying your at fault for damage caused, you could be able to find in local walmart or similar something that can test for acidity etc ,and that maybe can confirm if the substance is acid based ala battery, if that tests negative then could well be a sticky candy, soda, reaction to surface of the table, or 101 other things, a cheap test that such as used for fish tanks might work, need to at least have some more knowledge before trying to take on a claim IMO

A lot of things are acidic including soda, so it wouldn't really be a conclusive test.

If it's just the battery that's the problem that's one thing, but this has actually affected the Switch, destroying the case, at which point it becomes more than just an issue with the battery, even if that's what caused it.
The warranty on batteries here is 2 years but it's 5 years on most electronics, a guy got his Macbook with an inflated battery repaired after the 2 year mark because it was affecting the touchpad. If he had just said it was a battery problem they probably wouldn't have fixed it for free. I don't think he mentioned the battery at all since it wouldn't be relevant to the warranty anyway. So it shows that it really matters how you word the issue.

Makes sense. Remember the Note 7 fiasco? They had you send it in following a special procedure involving a fireproof box because it wasn't safe to ship it as is. Same thing probably applies to this, even though there hasn't been any fire, the chance is there that it could still happen and shipping it in the mail is probably not the best idea anyway if the acid somehow leaks through the package.

Well, if you accidentally pressed a button on a controller (though only the home button does that I think) when it was in sleep mode it would turn on.
Having it on the table blocks the air intakes, and the huge heatsink goes directly above the battery, so it could have been a contributing factor.
It's a long stretch, but not impossible I think.
It's why I'm always careful to turn my Switch completely off before putting it in the pouch. The JoyCon grips I have keep the back slightly elevated, but in a pouch it would have no breathing room.
Well, that and because the Switch drains a lot in just a few days if left in sleep mode. When turned off it drains very slowly, I can come back to it after a few weeks and there's less than 10% battery drained. (I don't play games that often )
Whereas in sleep mode it drains like 30% in a week.

Switch's air vents are recessed so that they can function even when on flat surfaces. The only way to actually block them would be a fabric of some sort.

That's not how it works. There would have to be a recess going all the way from the vents to the bottom so air can get in through the sides. Putting it on a completely flat surface will still block 90%+ of air flow.

This is amazing tbh.
The white chemical contained in the outer layer of your LiPo battery prevented a fire by preventing the oxygen from reacting with the lithium, but this only happens when the battery doesn't have room to release gasses when damaged and just builds up pressure against the weakest point(where it probably popped). Very interesting the battery of your switch didn't swell up first, or that nintendo maybe designed the battery this way.

Overall this only happens in RC toys and bigger appliances, smaller devices just inflate and customers will notice the damage before it becomes hazardous

Nintendo is going to send you a special shipping kit with a fireproof bag, or send a courier which will handle the fireproof packaging for you.
