Anyone know or have any thoughts whether the Mario Odyssey Switch console is a slightly newer hardware revision? I was watching the Black Friday sales and noticed that most retailers in my country were palming off all their old stock of Grey and Neon Switches at great prices. On eBay particularly, they were doing 'fake' Mario bundles where they bundled a standard console with a physical copy of Odyssey. But it was difficult to find the proper Mario Odyssey console for less than retail price.

Just makes me wonder if the hardware itself has been updated slightly, so retailers are dumping their old stock?

It's a standard console with red joycons. The reason the Mario Odyssey edition wasn't discounted probably is because it's a newer bundle with a newer game.

Maybe kinda early for a console revision/upgrade. Maybe nintendo may make one that is strictly console (maybe have console exclusives that works with the extra resources) and better FPS (Basically a ps4 pro nintendo edition) Who knows, nintendo already sold so many god damn units is insane how fast it sold compared to wii u :P

Even with the 3ds which was revision-crazy (6 times in 6 years), the first revision didn't come until about 15 months after its debut.
The switch is a home-console too (according to nintendo themselves) so don't expect anything until about 2 years in, if that.

Thanks for the replies. I agree it's definitely too early for a revision that Nintendo would make obvious to customers. I was thinking more along the lines of slight internal tweaks based on what they've learned from RMAs in the first batch. I'm just remembering the old PS2 SCPH model numbers where the internals were always being tweaked: various motherboard changes (sometimes to purposely make modchips harder to install), different fuses, adjustments to airflow, DVD functionality changes, and so on.

But I suppose unless Nintendo has changed the model number, the only way to tell would be opening up both units.

Are there more people like me that wait for the hardware revision to buy their first switch? I just don't want to be an early adopter again.

Well, haven't the joycons been slightly revised to fix the connectivity issues? (IIRC they have a piece of foam inside extra, to help with some shielding).
So the red joycons in the Odyssey bundle would probably be those revised ones... Unless ALL joycons available now are those revised ones.

Oh well :P

The revised one doesn't have the foam, it seems to no longer be needed (presumably they changed some components on the board), as some guy said his revised one had better signal, he opened it up to check and there was no foam and no visible changes except the board had a different number on it.

Alright! So that's how it was! :) Nice
