Unless you want to be able to do things like stream to your computer, use certain NTR pluginss with games like Pokemon USUM, play snes games with extra chips at a decent speed, or play Xenoblade at all. At least not on a standard 2ds. Sure you can get a "new 2ds" but you don't really save much money that way.

No you can't as a standard 2ds can't handle streaming due to not having the increased clock speed and ram that the n3ds has. While yes there is the "new 2ds" that doesn't really count since it isn't that much cheaper than a n3ds.
I meant n2dsxl

Well, the 3ds has 3d, that's the point of buying one...
The 3D is hardly ever used in games, causes unnecessary eye-strain and a lot of people can't actually see the 3D, so if you still want it, I guess you can get it for the 3D...

Do you have any study that verifies that? There are only few opinions you have read on the internet, is not based on general population, the sales in Japan are 50/50 with new3dsxl and new2dsxl, there is a market for them, but the reason they bought them is not empirically known

obviously the 3d feature of the 3ds is going to suck for people who have a bad eyesight, but for the rest of the people it is some nice feature to have, you can play games and watch movies in 3D, and even if some high profile games nowadays don't include 3D, most of the 3DS library do.

A study that verifies which part of what I said exactly? That a lot of people can't see the 3D? About 25% can't from what I remember I read somewhere, gonna have to look it up and I'm too lazy:P If it's the eye-strain, there's not a study on the 3DS exactly, but on the 3D technology it uses. It was phased out for a reason, despite being popular around 2008, meaning the eye-strain was reason enough for other devices to fail. Then again, at that time a lot of people had bigger issues than to pay attention to eyesight, so that might have been it...

What are you referring to exactly when you say "most of the 3DS library"? Because hardly 15% of all 3DS games (including indies, it's around 40% without them) use the 3D and most of those only use it for just a tiny part of the game (eg: Pokemon XY pretty much only use the 3D when encountering Xerneas/Yveltal).

Idk,model choice and when the person bought the system would be important factors? Not everyone who owns a o3dsxl knew the 2ds or new3ds's would come out,so I guess people still use it to save money since not all the n3ds exclusive games interest people since there isn't really a point in switching to a 2ds if it plays the exact same games, just on a smaller system.

I don't know about you but almost all my games have 3D, also you're wrong about XY, the 3d is activated in all Pokemon battles, not only on the Yveltal battle.

Edit: where did you get those numbers?

I like the 3-D features for music or any video with 3-D support. I also don't think they made 2DS with IPS screens.

People will do what they want to do, but I'd recommend someone getting a 3DS if they like a certain limited edition or like playing with effects. As they say, "It's better to have it and not need it rather than to "need" it and not have it."

I have a 2DS for that exact reason, 3D is hardly ever used in games! Also, I can't really see the 3D (I'm one of those people who see the layers instead), so it just hurts my eyes. The 3D is just a waste of money, you pay like 50€ for something you hardly ever use and the mono sound isn't bad at all anyway, so it's really not worth getting a 3DS over a 2DS.:P
N2ds has dual I think

N2ds has dual I think
Plus for the 50 you can get a nice pair of wired headphones and get better sound but at one point I found a n3ds for less than an o2ds (but I didn't have the money to buy it)

anyways, the only reason I would recommend someone to choose an N2DSXL over a N3DSXL is for price only.

From personal experience mostly (I've tried to play each and every game that's not N3DS exclusive for at least a hour or more) and seeing other people's collections. Was the 3D in battles noticeable enough though? I always thought of it as the same degree of 3D you get in Monster Hunter.:/

Btw, here, N2DSXL is at 139€ WITH a game while the N3DSXL WITHOUT a game is at 179€. It depends on the price, but still, with such a big difference in price for simply losing the 3D isn't that big a deal, so N2DSXL wins:P

So i ask... is there a point in owning a 3d instead of a 2ds?

Three reasons:

1. Removable Faceplates(New Nintendo 3DS)
2. Super Famicom Edition
3. Super NINTENDO Edition

Those happen to be the three I own. The SNES one is on pre-order. Hopefully, Amazon doesn't fuck it all up.....

I don't know, I kinda like the 3D effect in those games, the only downside is that it brings the FPS down but if you have a N3DS and a CFW that is not an issue, and even if you don't like the 3D in that particular game there are other games that use the 3D better but if you choose to buy a 2DS you won't be able to experience all the features those games has to offer, that's why you should only get a 2DS for the price or if you really have a bad eyesight.

yeah, like I said, if money is just a huge issue go for the 2ds, but I really think people should go the extra mile to buy a N3DS, especially if you have more family members that play 3DS games, cause even if it turns out you can't stand playing with 3D on maybe other family members won't have the same issue as you and would enjoy the experience, also let's not forget about 3d movies, if you have a 2ds there will only be normal 240p encoded movies.

Games like the Kirby Platformer and the more recent Metroid make good use of the 3D Effect to produce an incredible depth of field in their games.

Im not talking to those who owns a 2ds... you made the right choice
Why? Because i have an o3ds and a n3dsxl and i realised something

Less and less first party game has 3d support
I downloaded a few recent game lately with freeshop and none of them support 3d
So i ask... is there a point in owning a 3d instead of a 2ds?
New buyers, dont waste your money on 3ds. Go for a 2ds

you do realise that just because only older games have 3D support it doesnt mean said games stop existing, right?

I owned a new3ds xl, and my son has a one piece 2ds both systems are great however last week like a dumby I dropped my 3ds and was looking to replace it so I looked at the 3ds xl and the 2ds xl and decided I like the looks of the 2ds xl better...that and I like that it doesn't have the glossy housing. Lastly I don't really use the 3d much other that Mario 3d but I can get over that for that one game. I just can't wait for it to come in the mail tomorrow.
