My god, i literally downloaded 4.81 from sony's website yesterday just to be sure i had the file in case i needed it. It doesn't really surprise me that they don't want people to hack the console, but i thought they didn't care anymore. Oh well, i guess i won't sync anymore trophies from now

ps3 firmware 4.82 doesn't exist just checked the official sony's website ps3-system-software

Mhm, test your internet connection on your PS3 or jump to the system update option.
It's not on their website, they're trying to fix this exploit quietly.

because my fatso ps3 is like 7 years old now and it has overheating issues at times.

i'm still have my fat 80gb ps3 and temperature is always around 72-75°, u may open ur ps3 and clean the dust and change thermal paste, it maybe get 2-3° less

Excuse-me for the noob question, but would that mean that running unverified code on 4.81 would be possible by chirstmas ? If so, I have a RSOD PS3 with OFW 4.81, would there be a way to fix that dang red screen with the help of this ?

Uugh, this is complicated. So, I need an HDD and not a big usb drive? Then it's definitely not worth it, though it would be nice to play minecraft mods or something. What would you put on the hdd besides games that's so big?

If you are running a SuperSlim then I would wait until you can see what you can do with this hack instead of preparing for it. Also, yes this is complicated, that's half the fun when it comes to console hacking and homebrew. If you're just looking to play with Minecraft mods, just buy a half decent PC and do that. Not only will it work better but there's much more support. Console hacking isn't for people who give up easily or complain on forums and ask questions tons of times that have already been answered. Do some Googling, it will be a much better and faster way of learning what it is you're getting at. Sorry if any of this came off as rude, just figured I would offer the best view I could on the situation.

It won't let you install a cfw / mfw your getting the wrong end of this
The cfw's like Rebug are all based on a exploit inside mtldr
The 3000 slims and 4000 superslims have the updated mtldr2
So these cannot have the current type of cfw's installed
Only the older downgrade able consoles can. And that's by using this to software downgrade the older consoles instead of hardware downgrading

The newer consoles will have a new process to get homebrew on
Think how the Wiiu first made use of the Web kit exploits
It will be the same sort of process
But not cfw at this point

you should wait a little more time, we still don't know if the hack is going to allow cfw installation on super slim consoles.
