I love how people are spending $300 buying a second Switch just on the hope of eventually having software to download pirated games. Lol I'm all for pirated games, but by the time that happens used generation 1 Switches will be like $100 and the must have games will cost like $10. Why not just buy a Nvidia Shield and play better games and all the emulation your heart desires at that point? How much money can you be saving if Switch game loaders existed? The Switch's library basically consists of a ton of mediocre games with like 3-4 must haves. And then what? Once new games come out it turns into another cat and mouse game?

I absolutely love hacking out my consoles to put game loaders and emulators in it, but even this isn't worth it to me. I updated mine from 2.1.0 to 4.0.0 yesterday. I was holding out for a while and once I updated it was sooooooo nice being able to go into the eShop again. My body is so ready for Mario Odyssey on Friday, it's going to be glorious.

I think we can sell our low FW switches for a price higher than a new Switch and just use that to buy another one and profit instead of just updating.

it won't be long until we are able to dump things out of RAM, or from the game itself.

And you can't download NUS content yet, because there is no tickets available.
not this time

So then you're going to force yourself to miss out on great games to make a profit later on on false hope? Why did you even buy a Switch to begin with? You might as well have waited 2 years, you won't make a measly profit, but then you could buy an older model used Switch and games really cheaply.

I would love to make a profit in that fashion and still come walking away with a great console and games, but I like video games too much and I find it to be fun to get to play triple AAA releases earlier, especially Nintendo's flagship 1st party titles.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. If we can get a buyer today or tomorrow willing to purchase a low FW Switch, we can take that money and buy another Switch in order to play those AAA games instead of updating that low FW Switch. I think it's a waste to update a low FW Switch when it can be sold to contribute towards the hacking community. And possibly turn a profit while at it.

Ok I see exactly what you're saying now which is a good idea. The only issue though is that everything practically hearsay at this point still without proof of concept. You'll have more buyers lined up after Mario drops that's for sure as they'll be more rare then. I'm still inclined to believe that it's not too terribly difficult to find one below 3.0.1.

You won't really be able to sell a 3.0 or below switch for profit until hacks are out in the public and all stores have definitely stopped selling them with 3.0.

It's not on NUS, Nintendo is using a completely different server with actual encryption and cert checking this time, at least they learned something this time round
I can't even like this comment. Because I was unaware of the servers being encrypted and such. Sigh

So now that mario odyssey is out in the wild, do we have confirmation from actual owners (preferably PAL version) that the update included on the cart is 3.01 ? thanks

I wasn't aware people could fork out 300 dollars extra like it's chump change.
I bought one with my bonus from work, and won a second Switch here on GBATemp. (Belongs to my girlfriend now)

Dumping $300 for my first Switch without that $463 bonus I got in March would have been impossible.

Good for you, I guess. Not everyone has a job or gets bonuses, the exception to the rule. I'm already on 4.0.0, and honestly, I don't care anymore.

Some people can afford a second one, some can't.
In the end, it's up to the Switch user to decide what they want to do with their hardware. Some wait for Homebrew and "backups" and some wish to be able to play the latest games, it's up to you what you wish to do with your Switch.

Now, enjoy the god damn game!

sorry to bump this up, but do we have a confirmation from real actual owners of the game if the 3.01 update is really existant on the cart. as i understood no one had really the cart in their hands before so it was all just specuation even if some hacker has "confirmed" it. i just wonder how he had done it without having the actual cart in hands ???
so please lets put these buy two three four console etc stuff aside...it makes more sense to actuall hear from owners of the cart if the update is existant...maybe there is no need for buying 20 switch consoles to enjoy mario odyssey

Umm... people do have the cart in their hands. I have it in my hands. And what's with the quotes around "confirmed"? Do you understand what confirmed means? Perhaps not, since you can't even use spell check. Even worse than that... (at least in my browser) a word is underlined in real-time if it's misspelled.

I believe he was making light of the fact that it was "confirmed" before the game was actually released. He is also obviously aware that it is released now, and was asking for someone to confirm if the game does indeed contain firmware 3.01 as had been speculated.

uuuuuhhhhm yeah i understand perfectly what confirmed means mate. and i don´t need to use spell check like you who seem to be in need of help for everything in his life even for something simple like writing...or EVEN WORSE THAN THAT reading ! i stated i wondered how that person confirmed it WITHOUT having the cart, because that hacker confirmed it even before that !!! and you gramar nazi i had ONE word false and that was actually (written actuall), so i guess i don´t need spell check...oh boy, why this hate ?
Applause and thanks to machinoan who perfectly understood what i wrote there ! But nonetheless @urherenow you simply STILLnot wrote if that update is existant on that cart ???
So before you go out and do offend people, you could have first read the whole post and then just give a simple answer like: yeah i have the cart in hand and i can confirm the update 3.01 is present.

To make it plain and simple:
Do you own a Switch on FW 3.0.0?

If you do, can you please insert the cartridge which you say you own and confirm that it prompts an update?

Thanks.

exactly ! many thanks...sheesh people these times...and if someone else can proof that via photo would be better even more

I think the Switch will probably be in the same position later on that the PS Vita is in now where there are games and even updates to older games will not be playable since there is no way to decrypt them. from an Anti-Piracy POV, this will be good, but from archival or piracy stances, This will be a bad thing unless an exploit comes out for 3.0.1+ that allows for dumping newer games without encryption;"cryptofixing" as the 3DS scene calls it.
