it happened when my little brother was playing, suddenly the 3DS shut down with strange sound coming from the screen.

so maybe something burned inside the 3DS? i am trying to turn it on without the battery just the power AC attached on and it turned on the blue light and immediately turn off,but when i attach the battery it stay turning on for 3-4 seconds and the it shut down with both screen flash fast and tat pop sound.

can be fixed? what do you think the problem from which part?

the funny thing is,the 3DS is working now.

managed to remove it using a nail clipper, lol
now to find my old replacement ribbon that could still works.

ok,managed to put it back together, with the replacements ribbons, and it still make that pop sound win trying to turning it on.
that's means it's one of the R or L ribbon that causing the problem?

In general when 3ds does boot and does a crack sound without turning display on it mean upper display have an issue.
Try to clean the ribbon check if all is correct about it be careful.
No worry the 3ds can boot without L or R button plug in

The console will not boot without upper screen, Lower I have no idea I have not tried it yet

Edit : Also the console can boot without speakers.
And that crack sound should come from speakers if you not have upper display recognized^^

Even since DSi if both screens arnt attached properly u will get the turn on pop off effect

found the cause of the problem,i removed the left trigger button and i manged too boot my 3DS,i think the ribbon i causing a shorting?

okey, managed to replace the left ribbon, the 3DS boot normally,i press right trigger and it resounds without problem.
but when i press the left trigger the 3DS pops and shut down (shorting?)

i guess the problem is from the socket from the motherboard?

did you had luma ?
I do not boot if you hold L without emunand and specific configuration, as it try to but an emunand that is not present.
I know something similar happened to me when emunand and luma was still together for me :P
this 3DS has luma with b9s 1.2
and it boot directly to emunand.

Then I have no idea why a R or L would prevent boot beside if that associated to a CFW function that is not possible with a setup.
It has no reason, even my old chinese half button that work time to time does not prevent boot ^^'
it boot normally, but when i press L it just pops and shut down,so i can't even boot to luma.
but i can boot to godmod9.

right now the second right ribbon just broke,so i have to way to use both R and L now.

i am done goofed now

now my 3DS short circuit 4 out of 5 tries, and it auto shutdown after 20 seconds

i want to extract the friend seed and somefiles, but godmod can't launch.

If you're happy with sending you 3DS off, I'll have a look else give precise pictures of the area where the "short" may be I'll happily help , hardware is my key :P.

Make sure to take a picture of the inside of the connector and surrounding area, you might have also blown a fuse....

I'll post pictures soon, right now the back of the 3ds is uncovered, when i close it will shut down most of the time,so i keep it open and make my hand hold the battery as much as possible to keep it running.
The back cover is missing for years, buy i have nyko battery that works as good back cover as well.
