As long as its essentially open source and no malware is going to strike me im cool
Could be an issue though if it looks all fine and dandy and then he adds some malware and releases it, and everybody gets autoupdated to the malware version (instead of having to read about it, and decide if they want to update).

Did unbanmii have malware?
Not quite, it uploaded personally identifiable console data to a web server for verification purposes and this was not clearly communicated as to why and with the app being closed source and this being found out through reverse engineering it quickly got a negative reaction and distrust.

Harvesting friend code seeds is a bit more than just collecting data for verification.
 
People can't help there paranoia due to the dev whom is forking it behind it though, with related things happening. Although, I guess use at your own risk after all.

That's based on whether the dev actually intended for his previous software to be malware. P sure he didn't. Time will tell.
