Hardware A black mark on the screen

I was playing on my Switch tonight and noticed something that I didn't notice before. A black mark on the screen that wont disappear. I don't think it's a dead pixel because when I look at the screen from a different angle the mark is in a slightly different position. But looking at photos I took when I bought the system it was like that when I bought it.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of this ugly thing?

As far as Nintendo is concerned a stuck or dead pixel is considered normal and they won't exchange it

Looks like a pixel... under 5% dead pixels and maufacturers dont care and wont swap.

It's annoying when they're in the centre of the screen as well. My first N3DSXL had one slap bang in the middle. It bugged the hell out of me!

If it's under 28 days old return it to the store you purchased it from and let it be their problem.

I had one of those on 3ds, it turned out it was just "lazy-. So a bit of massage fixed it.

I still don't understand. If I look at the screen from a different angle the position of the mark moves slightly. I can see every pixel on the screen, just not all at the same time which leaves me to believe that it's a blemish on the glass (or whatever the material may be called) rather than a dead pixel.

EDIT: Even when the system is turned off the mark is still there. A dead pixel will not cast a shadow when I shine light from my phone on it. It is not a dead pixel.

If memory of teardowns serves the screen and digitiser is layered ( https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nintendo+Switch+Teardown/78263 step 14) so a bit of grit or something could have floated in there during that. I have seen that plenty of times, mostly when things are fixed but from factories too, however I don't know where it falls under defects. Certainly would explain the angle at which it dangles and the results from tilting the screen. Since it is effectively a dead/stuck pixel I imagine they would do percentage coverage, quadrants and whatever else people do for dead/stuck pixels and as the Switch is a cheap device with the warranty to match it sounds like you are going to have to complain to the shop you got it from rather than doing whatever officially. I guess you could disassemble it to the point where you have the digitiser off and try cleaning that but that is not a trivial fix if the link from the start is anything to go by -- 10 minutes and a few screws on a phone is one thing but that looks like heat and coaxing, as well as possibly replacing the adhesive afterwares, you can probably skip the rest of the teardown though.

I'll go back to the store today and see what they have to say. They probably wont let me swap it for a new one but it's worth a shot. It's unlikely to be covered by warranty and this is a 2.30 Switch so I really don't want to send it to Nintendo and have them update it.

Most likely I'll have to deal with this myself. A few years ago some guy on YouTube removed dust from the center of a screen using static electricity from a balloon. If that doesn't work I'll learn to live with this spec of dirt until I get around to fixing it myself.

That looks like a spec of dirt stuck on the screen rather than a dead pixel. It's probably a dead pixel though. At least you only got one, but it's too bad it's so centrally located.

Yeah it's dust under screen, my first two switches had this problem as well, return it until you get a proper one. Idk why this is an issue in 2017.

That's what my rainbow colored pixel looked like after I pushed the screen in with my finger. I killed it. That switch is now back at the retailer while my new flawless one sits in the closet.

yup my 1st 3ds has a speck of dirt trapped between the top LCD and the plastic
i never sent it in because i would have lost ambassador and hackable FW

also if only you had slid that toad over to the right one space for the screen shot, the expression is perfect

Bruh that's a big screen, that pixel would be pretty damn big because of the low resolution

You would not have lost ambassador, ambassador status is transferred with a system transfer.

Sounds like my Switch, mine has a speck of dust that looks like a small hair sandwiched inbetween the front and the screen itself. I noticed it on day 1, but I didn't return it right away as I wanted to enjoy my Switch for a while as well as wait until they get the stock issues sorted out so I don't have to wait weeks just for them to get the parts in stock. It's invisible when the console is turned on and even near invisible when it's turned off and I shine a light at it, but it still bothers me to have a manufacturing defect like that on a brand new console. At some point I will get my Switch repaired/replaced as it's also bent, and at the same time I'll complain about poor JoyCon connectivity and see if they can do anything about that.

i know that, but back then my options were to return it for a new system which would have lost me ambassador since it would have been an even exchange old ambassador for new ambassadorless system or to send it in for repair and get updated
and i don't even think you could do a transfer at the time, 2011 it didn't get added in till later FW
