VR on Switch was something Reggie discussed at E3 i think.

So this isn't surprising news. However, i am interested in how they are gonna deal with the screen resolution issue.

Maybe the Switch prototype had a high resolution screen. Or they are planning to release a headset which already has a integrated high resolution screen and which you can connect to the switch with a cable. I thought of something like this:

That could work by just capturing the video feed via the hdmi while docked & having downsampled higher resolution screens with inbuilt scaling/filters for the VR, but Nintendo won't go to the effort for it. I assume it'll be Google Cardboard quality at best.

My only gripe with VR on switch would be the price of the headset. The switch itself was quite expensive, so the headset needs to be at an affordable price since that way they can gain a larger install base than Sony. Also since this is Ninty we are talking about here, the vr headset would probably be made with cheap materials like how some parts of the Switch itself were. So if Ninty play their card right and manage to successfully launch VR on the Switch at an affordable price whilst at the same time making good games for it then, they could become the leader when it comes to VR.

A few days ago i saw that thread asking "if we will ever actually have lots of games on the switch which use that Ice Cube feature" well i can safely say that if VR does become a thing on the Switch then feeling ice cubes will be smallest of the various things you will be able to do. Also not to mention, if Ninty are working on VR then it would definately help them sell more switch'es worldwide.

Also curious about the cradle version thing, this would imply that the dock could be updated through a firmware update.

Looking through the IPC interface spec I have here (which is *not* complete by any means, but does have pretty good coverage of the areas I'd expect to include this; e.g. it has all the Firmware update commands for input devices), I'm not seeing anything for updating the dock whatsoever. Just the command to pull the version.

If they use the switch tablet screen, the VR won't be that horrible. I own a Oculus Rift DK1 (which has a screen with 720p resolution) and its useable.
