The latest working one from what i can remember is around 2017-4-4/7 or so.
Don't count on it working anytime soon unless someone starts to specialy focus on the 3ds version.
I read on an german Gamepage that the previous Versions of Retroarch accidently enabled an automatic rewind which slowed down the Performance.

Anyone note any performance gains in the latest release? RetroArch seemed to say that it would improve performance across cores.

Eeyup, the rewind was implicitly enabled.
Though in case if psx-rearmed the problem is it trying to recompile the code from a game you play which makes the system crash.

Version 1.6.7 is out. Does anyone know what this release fixes ?

Sad to say, probably not going to happen they stopped support for 3ds last time I heard
If they did we wouldn't have the rewind fix in 1.6.6.
The problem was that aliaspider left the project, and he was the main maintainer for both 3DS and Wii U ports.

That's not to say, however, that someone else could take on the project and/or implement bugfixes here and there from time to time.

Sure, bugfixes are nice, but they are simple and not to the extent of optimizing whole cores for the system. Literally no one else can make the 3DS versions any more salvageable than it is now. I think it's safe to say, unless someone else here or elsewhere decides to continue from Aliaspider's work, this port specifically is virtually on hiatus.

Cores are another repository on their own.
The main thing is to get RetroArch to compile for whatever system the target is for.
If you notice, each core/emulator has a different GitHub repository.
The cores themselves are not what's to be optimized, the maintainers of each emulator are mostly in charge of that, like ekeeke for GenPlus GX, but rather work on the main frontend and debug the issues it has in particular for the system at hand, in our case, the 3DS.

Gotcha thanks for clearing that up

So basically, dont bother with the PSX Emulation on the 3DS. Previous and Current Builds lock up when it is trying to run a Recompiling.

I don't think anybody will pick up and optimize the cores for the 3DS after all this time, just look at PCSX, right after being ported nobody made a single effort to optimize it for the platform.
