I know a WebKit exploit by itself doesn't mean much, but I really hope this encourages hackers to find alternatives ways of getting a PS3 hacked besides using a 3.55 custom firmware, even if the hacks are temporary.

From the article, it seems like only 3.55 and 4.81 are officially supported for now. From what I understand, this is just a WebKit exploit, so it should work on the official firmware. Just keep in mind that the application making use of the exploit is not functional currently.

Furthermore, I appreciate your due diligence Plstic, but there's nothing to download at the moment. You just point your PS3 browser to the address in the linked thread and tinker. Furthemore, esc0rtd3w has a thread going on at PSX Place, as stated on page 5 of the thread I linked. I tried finding it myself, but couldn't come across it and I'm not gonna sort through days worth of this guy's post.

I've also been a long time lurker who rummages around the 3DS threads when something new comes up. Never had a reason to make a thread. I'm not aware of the drama that goes on in the PS scene these days, but I don't doubt it's still going on since the PS2 days, especially with the *Scene domains, which I think eventually became the *Hax guys. However, that's where I found the thread. Didn't see it here and there's a lot of folks who know what they're doing on GBATemp, so I decided to make an account and post it.

So far the website I pointed my PS3 to did exactly what the tests were meant to. Get info, and crash the machine. This is still VERY early and is maybe a little over a week old at best, but it's something.

Some people may find this interesting. Cakehonolulu did a short write-up on his investigation of the PS3's Browser. Apparently, the PS3 Web Browser does not support TypedArrays, which means that "any modern exploitation technique won't work on the PS3 out-of-the-box and it will require more work to get it working."

It's kinda funny how in the thread you linked, they're unsure if Flash is exploitable then esc0rt goes and finds out in his own thread that every entrypoint he tried with flash worked.

Shortly after posing this though, he responded in his own thread saying he's going kinda on the DL with it, but will keep github and his websploit page updated with new things.

I registered just to clear things up a bit....so here it goes

1) The PSXHAX post is not fake and I am a developer there.
2) The original thread was on PSX-Place, but has been moved to the Private Section
3) The current test page located on the websploit site is the last public test page before going private
4) There will not be any releases until we have everything worked out.
5) The only *tested* firmware so far is 4.81.
6) If successful in our venture, all models on OFW should be supported
7) Only time will tell

I've never modded the ps3, i have a super slim so i never even thought about the possibility of doing it, but now that there might be a chance to hack the console, should i use specific DNS on the console to avoid system updates?
