So I'm looking into getting a new 2DS XL when it launches next week.
I only have a 1st gen Nintendo DS (the very first) and have not played since I finished Pokemon Diamond.

I really miss playing Pokemon and Mario and I'm set on getting the 2DS XL.

The thing is, I've read a lot about FreeShop and I wanted to install it (this is, if the 2SD XL supports it), but I've read about the recent banwave.
So... if I install Freeshop or any modded firmware I'm going to get auto-banned?

I'd like to play online multiplayer, so this seems impossible if I do end up installing modded software on my 2DS XL.
Am I correct?

The N2DSXL will come with 11.4, so you won't be able to install CFW right away. You'll need a second, hacked console (the original 2DS are cheap and are guaranteed to come with a hackable firmware), or be willing to do a hardmod (you'll need to be good at soldering). See https://3ds.guide

You are unlikely to be banned if you turn off information sharing (System Settings->Internet Connections->Spotpass->Sending of System Information). You'll be able to play online.

I'm good at soldering but I don't feel comfortable at all opening up my new 2DS and hardmodding it.
Any other solution?

Buy a old 2DS, hack it, and follow the dsiwarehax method

Or wait for ntrboothax(may have spelled it wrong, idk sorry if I did ;-; )

I saw a video regarding the dsiwarehax, it seems simple yet lengthy. But buying 2 consoles at the moment is out of the questions.
A new nintendo 3ds XL would be cheaper and it's CFW ready out of the box correct? Unless it's running 11.4.0?

Any brand new system (that isn't the N2DSXL) should be CFW-able out of the box.

I'm looking at getting a New 3DS XL used for a relatively low price and going with that. That way I can be sure what firmware it is running.
I'm afraid fo buying it in store and having 11.4

If you're buying it at a store, ask if there are any particularly old 3ds consoles, during they're for a while. That worked for me.

I took another look at hard modding it, and do you have any pictures of the internals? I might consider hardmodding it to be honest, I rewatched 2-3 videos and it didn't look that bad, the solder spots are bigger than I thought.
I have some very fine tips on my soldering station which'll do the job nicely

Lots of pictures of the internals on this thread. What you probably want are under the PCB Image spoilers.

if you live nearby one of the more trusted tempers who own one of the games, they might be willing to help out.

It should look similar enough. Also if you don't want to hardmod or do dsiwarehax, with a little bit of patience, you can wait for ntrcardboothax. It would require a compatible DS flashcard and a fridge magnet. :P

I googled ntrboothax but there's no talks about release date sadly

So it's either get a 2DS XL and wait for ntrboothax, or hardmod it.
Or get a 3DS XL because there's no need for any of that.

Right?
I'd like to mention even with NTRBootHax you still need a way to install the exploit payload either with CFW/DSi 1.4.4/DSLite/Powersaves. As well as a compatible flashcard. You have to either have hacks, another console or a powersave dongle to make use of the exploit when it comes out.

Oh? I didn't know that but it totally makes sense lol.
