what do i need to know about full rom sets?

since nintendo removed plenty of roms from the common websites that has them..
i decided to get my hands in rom sets, specially the no-intro sets (too much trash in goodsets, and i just want clean roms)

for now i got the gba library and wanted to put all the roms in my flashcart
the thing is, there is too much stuff i don't want.. and deleting 1 by 1 is being too much a pain.. for example, i don't want both european and usa releases of games, just one of them
what tools and stuff do i need to organize theese sets?

EvoCRC is a pretty good tool that can help you with romset organization.
Remember that there are region exclusive titles though (just in case you were going to delete every non US rom).

Since your roms are all in the same folder, use your search function in your file browser (finder or windows explorer) and search (U) in your rom folder. This will pull up all/most the USA roms within that folder. Then drag them somewhere you'd like to keep them. Double check you didn't miss any and delete the rest. At least, this is what I've done. Maybe someone has a better way?

Can someone explain how the rom organizers and .dat from dat-o-matic and such actually work in theory, during construction of the rom since the .dat aren't the rom themselves if I understand it?

well from what i understood, the dat is a list of the files with the checksums
the rom manager compares your list of games to that other list of games

that list of games (the .dat) comes from the websites where they already did the lists (for example no intro)
you can generate your own .dat file from your list of roms

So, then when you construct your own list. You need 2, or 3 things? The .dat list from no-intro(for example), the rom manager, and what else?

I noticed the whole parent/clone thing as well. Are those just more detailed/specific versions of the base .dat list?

the .dat is the database with the roms list
you can get it on the internet or build it with your own with the games you got

the .dat (and the rom manager) is just to verify what games you own, what you missing, and if they are correct
they don't provide you the roms, they are only a list of every (insert console name) game\dump

they are used just to compare your list of roms, with the list on the .dat file

that's the one i tried today.
but there is something that is really bothering me...
why so many gba roms got a green check above a green chip icon, while loads of them are just a green chip
there are some green chip icons with a cross on them as well

and dat-o-matic provides different .dat files, any suggestions on which one to use?
