No Terraria, it has enemies being killed (bunnies and others + blood). I'd vote for Kirby as well.
you know that when the kids will use kirby to "suck" a monster and throw their digested bodies in the shape of a star they will know what's going on..
ok terraria has the zombies thing which even if they look so friendly and a joke, it's ewww, so i get it

and i never seen a kid saying "to make the monsters disappear you jump on them"
every single kid i met says "you have to jump on their head to kill them"
also when mario gets hurt kids say "i died"

Kirby spits out stars made from some non human looking enemies. Regardless of that in Terraria you have flying eyes, skulls, demons, some nasty looking enemies. The thematic is way more obscure in Terraria for a young child.

ho yeah forgot about the nasty eyes and monsters...
it's not that violent, but it's creepy and a bit horror...

no, I'm just saying you shouldn't give gaming consoles to a 10 year old, es-fucking-specially a 5 year old...
You had a sad childhood, didn't you? My grandmother bought me my NES when I was 4. First game I ever beat was Kirby's Adventure, also age 4. I really don't see the problem with giving young kids games if they are responsible enough to not break it.

I'd also like to point out that you claim you are 16, so I would assume you don't have kids of your own. Let me give you some advice dear, don't be giving parenting advice to anyone, especially including the word "fuck," when you don't even have kids of your own. You have no idea what you're talking about. Kthx.

The games my niece already has are

New Super Mario Bros 2
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask

Games I have, some of which I could give her

Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer
Bravely Default
Bravely Second
Chibi Robo Zip Lash
Code Name Steam
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Fire Emble Awakening
Fire Emblem Echoes Shadows Of Valentina
Fire Emblem Fates
Hyrule Warriors Legends
Kid Icurus Uprising
Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance
Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros
Mario Tennis Open
Persona Q
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
Pokemon Moon
Pokemon Sun
Pokemon X
Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World
Resident Evil Revelations
Tom Clancy'S Ghost Recon Shadow Wars

Any of the "girly" games any good? Or better to stick the "usual suspects"?

If it makes a difference my nephew is actually 6 not 5 :P
Games good for the 6 year old from what you listed might include:
  • Chibi Robo
  • DK Country Returns 3D
  • Hyrule Warriors Legends (he probably wont be able to do well, but he may enjoy just slashing about wildly, lol)
  • Mario Tennis Open
  • Any of the Pokemon games
  • Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly world (easy mode)
If you were looking for games you don't have too, let me know and I can make up a list. I could also ask some of my friends what their kids play. I don't really have any suggestions for your 10 year old niece, as I don't know many "girly" games, but I would think she is old enough to know what she likes. I'm sure she could tell you about some games she's interested in, or are you trying to get her into games?

I would go with FE:Awakening for her. It has universal appeal, and the highly strategical component is so very good for the brain. Also, if she enjoyed NSMB, Super Mario 3D Land is a great option.

i'm having a good laugh over people suggesting like murder grapical novels like pheonix wright. too much text guys.

for the 5 year old: puzzle games like tetris, racing games, simple jump and run games like kirby
possibly nintendogs for both?

for the 10 year old, kirby too, animal crossing, probably bratz/barbie/horse games.
maybe rhythm thief and harvest moon, possibly ever oasis.

I heard the zero escape trilogy was nice

Dont actually get those games for them. Gunvolt was pretty fun though. Maybe try the new Pokemon mystery dungeon
Sure, totally child friendly.
No nightmare material for kids at all.
Almost no text to read and read.
There's no sexual innuendo at all either, specially not near elevators.
