I just got a NES30 Pro Game Controller from 8bitdo plus the NES Classic Receiver. After updating their firmware to the latest and paired them to NESCE for the first time, I found that its button mapping on the Retroarch menu was strange. I tried a SNES game, the Y button function was identical with A and X was identical with B. By default, both X and Y were not functioning as if my previous HORI Battle Pad (which automatically mapped everything perfectly).

Anyone has tips about using button mapping on this 8bitdo product?

NES Classic - CRT Filter Hack HMOD (Many people's determination helped make this great thing happen!)

Does this filter work and is it compatible with all kernels?

Nestopia
FCEumm
SNES9x2010
Genesis Plus Gx
Mame2003
FB Alpha

Thanks for the clarification.

It works nicely with all of these ones. Picodrive and PCE Fast are two, thus far, that do not mesh well with it. You can simply have filter off for those ones:) I may make a few more adjustments and try to get these two above mentioned ones more optimized for the filter.

Has anyone tried getting Hudson Nintendo games for PC-88, and Sharp X1 games to work on the Nintendo mini through the MAME emulator?

Super Mario Bros. Special, Punch Ball Mario Bros, Mario Bros. Special, etc. If so could they film how it looks, and plays on the Nintendo Mini?

Would be cool considering the novelty of playing with actual NES controller pad with games that were based on NES classics with new material.

I have played some of the Super Mario Special mods but those still lack new enemy, and items, and some of the level artwork designs (no coral/seaweed to be seen on Overlworld levels for example), so it would be interesting to play the original 'scree by screen' versions.

Hi guys. Why the demo mode does work with the 30 original games only? is there a way to activate it for added games? Thanks.

I love this CRT filter. Thanks for it. Looks great. Not QUITE as good as the stock nes crt filter...but pretty darn close. Now if someone could make it so that you could have screen curvature, I'd be all set. Oh...and I'd love to get vector bloom/glow and flicker, too....though I don't know if that's possible with something like the nes classic.

For the record, C7 generally means core not installed. It can also happen when you flash too high in Mb and have a ghost core. You see it. But, it does not function.

You may have one of a few reasons why updated cores do not work for you. They have worked for a majority of people, thus far.

1. Using old hakchi2

2. Not properly uninstalling previous HMODS.

3. Not having retroarch hmod installed.

4. Security conflict (refer to my access denied video).

5. Memory conflict (flashing too many Mb in games.

6. Command lines wrong.

7. Master Bios not installed for systems dependent on them.

8. Incorrect rom sets.

I would suggest you do the following.

0. Use hakchi2 2.17

1. Uninstall all HMODS

2. Uninstall Hakchi2

3. Delete temp folder from hakchi2 directory.

4. Flash custom & Original Kernel

5. Flash Games

6. Install retroarch hmod plus others.

Try the updated snes 2010 as a starter core. Then test others. I have had over 50 people test these cores, of which only 2 had issues which the above steps remedied.

Keep me posted:)

You should be back in current hmod action, soon enough:)

I generally run them all via retroarch. And, a majority use the simple R1 to eject, L1 to flip, R1 to insert, just like in my FDS Test video.

Retroarch settings, quick settings, load core.

Or, while connected to hakchi2, uninstall module option, while system is properly situated to be read.

if the previous hmods work for me, is it really necessary to use new ones ? I know that the new SNES 2010 works better with FX chip games....which I only have one of that seems to work just fine. I'd rather not write onto the nes classic unless I absolutely have to. I know it has about 100,000 times you can write on it, but since I can't really replace this if something goes wrong, I'd rather not take the chance.

I can't flash games with 2.17, as it kept telling me that I had far too many games. I just use that for the save state manager.

As it stands, I have pretty much every game that I want to play on it right now.

Thanks for the help, though. Maybe one day if I'm feeling brave I'll try the new hmods again....we'll see.

What I had done originally was uninstall hakchi, then set the nes back to original state. Then I reinstalled all the hmods and flashed the games. After this, some games wouldn't work, but that was because I hadn't installed one of the core. Once I did that, everything seems to be working fine.

I take it the CRT filter HMOD only affects games running under RetroArch? I really like how the stock CRT filter looks on NES games running on kachikachi. Are those unaffected by this HMOD?

the NES Classic Receiver firmware needs to be on this firmware, not the latest on their website
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5z4ly99-W8WcWYzLWZJSUZWNzg/view

you need to downgrade back to stock 1.03 then upgrade to this^

now you can go to retroarch/quick menu/controls and change them

also uninstall and reinstall retroarch if you made any changes before using this

it will only affect games running under retroarch

if an nes game is using the default filter installing this hmod will no affect it , until you make that game run using retroarch

Not normally a big deal to me, but if you could provide attribution for my creation of the original hmod, I'd appreciate it.

Rodney

I mentioned in the info, anyone that was unnamed. I used a combination of code from hizzle, tmnt, and unknown. I tried finding out who everyone was. Now that I know you were part of it, I will update the info file, accordingly. Nfo file will be updated today:) If you have any input on how to make PCE and Picodrive work more optimally, I would also appreciate your input.

I created the hmod - the readme still has my verbiage in it. *laughs*

No worries. I suspect PCE and Picodrive issues are around non-integer 'scaling'...I'm running NES-only for now, so I'll add those and see what I can see.

Well, I am glad to know it was you. And, I already looked into integer, as an option. I changed a few things to help with SNES slowdown and make Genesis run better. But, thanks for getting things off the ground. I have a few other ideas for hmods I would like to make, that may make other hmods better. Oh yeah, I will also be sure to throw a credit on my YouTube. Keep in touch!

It is worth the upgrade for MAME 2003 & MAME 2010, alone! As far as you flashing too many games, the steps I listed will fix that problem:) MAME 2003 has System 32 Support, MAME 2010 runs Thunder Blade, Night Slashers, the problematic MAME 2000 only games, for starters! SNES 2010 core certainly performs better! Genesis Plus GX crashes less often! You should definitely spend a few minutes, and upgrade:) Also, FCEUMM core is updated for the better!

Hi again. About the demo mode of the main menu, I have read that Cluster said long time ago "It's possible to create your own demos using clovershell tool". Does anyone knows how do it?

and the save states are small, right ? It will be a little while until I can mess with my mini again, but I'll try it out as soon as I can. I just uninstall the ones I have now and put the new ones on ? I don't want to uninstall, go back to stock, and then put everything back on. Just takes forever.

I would recommend, at least...uninstalling current HMODS, Flashing Custom Kernel, Making sure Games are not flashed TOO high. Then, reinstall the NEW HMODS. That should work fine. I will be posting another core sometime today, one that plays handheld games.

flash custom kernel ? What does that do exactly ? I don't think I've done that before. Maybe I have. That's when you put games onto the system, correct ?

Flashing custom kernel is the proper way to be able to flash games on a newer version of hakchi2, as well as on another Mini. It will help ensure you are properly able to flash games, hmods, etc.

Did some testing of the new Core I got running. Put together a set of games for it, including translations. I spent a couple hours trying these things out. They definitely have their entertainment value! I will post both the Core, as well as a video tomorrow morning when I wake up. There will be several things I can go over in the video, to make transitioning to this unique set more interesting! So, thanks so much for being patient! Look forward to trying something quite a bit different than you are accustomed to playing on the Mini, starting tomorrow! After I post, I will look into some other Cores, and their potentially, respective abilities for the Mini:) I will also post a video of a "true" gem of a game I found on The Odyssey II. It is very very addictive, and you will definitely enjoy playing it, especially if you are an oldschool gamer like me! I will also work on possible integration of MAME Cheats, as an HMOD. As always, I am welcome to suggestions on anything and everything that anyone thinks of, that might make the Mini a better experience for us all!

Oh yeah, I will also cover my friggin' window, so it is less of a distraction in my videos, henceforth:)
