NES Classic - REAL Doom & REAL Quake Test (Both Cores included in my latest Mega Thread Update:)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

MAME 2010 runs several games that do not run on MAME 2003, starting with Thunder Blade & Night Slashers. It also more optimally runs Midway-Bally Games that do not function so well on 2000, and not at all on 2003. The main drawbacks to MAME 2010 are that it is 14 Mb, CRT Filter doesn't play nice with it (works great for MAME 2003, however!), NEO-GEO doesn't run as well, and you cannot use the nifty MAME Options, like you can in 2003. 2010 is recommended mainly for running games you can't run elsewhere. For the most part, MAME 2003 is the way to go. It is fun playing Star Wars & Thunder Blade in 2010, though! Neither work in 2000 or 2003. There are probably a good 100 plus games that can only be run on 2010.

Mame2010 is basically a replacement for mame2000 (updated emulator) plus a few tweaks for mame2003 roms that ran like crap...I liked mame2000 better..runs smoother asides from the screen resolution size that you had to adjust in RA..I have a pi as well as the mini...

Whichever MAME runs Carnevil at a nice frame rate, is my favorite MAME:) Too bad we cannot run that game on the Mini, due to its sheer size! It also sucks that both Killer Instinct 1 & 2 are also not playable (Well, at least in MAME 2003! - Might have to try Killer Instinct 1 on MAME 2010. Doubtful it would work. But, it is gonna make it to things to test!)

Low batteries?? lol...

Not really I'm using wired Official Wii Classic and Wii Pro Classic controller. They both work most of the time but sometimes 3 out of 10 times it would suddenly stop responding. Give it 5-10 seconds and it would start to work normally again. Very odd, just wondering if this happens to anyone out there as well?

Never stops functioning. But, sometimes on bootup, they won't register. I can unplug and plug back in, or power off and back on to fix it. This happens occasionally, and not enough to be bothersome.

Yes it happens on bootup for me as well. Instead of replug the controller or power cycle the unit I just wait 5-10 seconds and it works again. You are right it does not happen often enough for it to be bothersome but it irratates me when it happens lol

That's strange..I have two Wii Pro controllers for my mini and I have never experienced this at all.Not even any problem on bootup with them either.I am still on 2.14b, so not sure if the version makes a difference or not..maybe it does.

I should also mention that I use 4 meter extension cable, not sure if that can somehow cause this issue. But I guess I will try 2.14b.

Actually, the extensions are the cause. But, it is hardly bothersome. I have had the minor issue on occasion as far back as 2.11. It basically just redetects controller. I would never use a direct connection. I love the freedom of being up to 10 feet away. And, I have never lost it once system is on. So, gaming has never been screwed. Are you on a 32 bit or 64 bit operating system. Keep in mind, 2.14 is only good for 64 bit os. You flash 50 mb less on 32 bit.

2.14 works for any OS...don't know where you heard or read that from. Plenty of peeps I know with either 32 or 64 bit run it well...and still do...

It works well, but they flash at 50 Mb less on 32 bit operating systems. This was a known bug that was PATCHED for 2.15. I have tested 2.14 on dozens of 32 Bit and 64 Bits, and every single instance of 32 bit couldn't flash 300 Mb. ClusterM was aware of this, after I brought it to his attention. Hence, he fixed how ram usage was optimized and 2.15 fixed it. Note, THIS on the hakchi2 release page.

https://github.com/ClusterM/hakchi2/releases
  • RAM memory usage optimizations, hakchi2 should work fine on x86 systems now.
2.14 does NOT work fully on x86 systems. It never did. For the record, the fix involved a memory check, before and after flashing games. Debug Version best shows this, in general.

Yes the freedom and after being spoiled with wireless controllers for 10 years going back to short wired controllers is not fun.

I'm on 64bit Windows 7 so I think I should be ok.

That's strange, so it works fine no issues with you eh? Guess I will give 2.14b a try and report back.

Thanks guys!

Let's just say, that I have TeamViewer connected to well over 1000 people since hakchi2 was released. Dozens upon Dozens of people I dealt with messaged me having severe flashing issues. So, I took it upon myself to pinpoint the cause of the flashing issues (2.14b release, wise), and I determined it to be x86 based. I posted my test results on clusterm's github page, and he quickly patched it. It was so irritating trying to get 300+ Mb on x86 at that time, especially since it was not immediately known what the cause was. Several of the people were on Macs, which complicated matters. But, once I ran the tests on a few of my own personal computers, using debug version, I saw memory misreads, which definitely showed the issue's cause:) 64 Bit, which I run on my MAIN computer, never had an issue. And, yes, 2.14b can flash HIGHER capacity than 2.17. It just sucks it can't fully flash at max capacity on 32 bit.

No KMFDmanic is right, this has been known since the beginning and is even mentioned in the update files of Cluster. I told you before, because 2.14 works better for you doesn't mean it works better for everyone. 2.14 is not the ultimate version as you claim.

I'm trying to save space by getting rid of the FBA core. I think I found a MAME ROM of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. Is there a version that runs on mame2003/2010?

It is clear that until the launch of Snes mini we will not see new versions of Hakchi2, because surely, try to use the same pc program to access the snes mini and configure menus, etc ...

Have to wait.
